The weekly roundup for volleyball includes all matches played Aug. 31-Sept. 6.
Clay (3-7) opened its week with a pair of losses to Avon (25-10, 25-21) and Whitmer (25-17, 25-21, 25-15), but responded with a win over Liberty-Benton (25-12, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18).
Eme Goetz (7) and Brooklyn Mariea (3) combined for 10 kills in the opener against Avon. Marisa Martinez added eight digs, while the combo of Zoe Nowacki (8) and Ava Wheeler (6) combined for 14 assists.
Goetz added 15 kills, three aces and two blocks against Whitmer, while Mariea had eight terminations. Leah Hazuda added two aces. Adleigh Derr (7), Goetz (6) and Hazuda (5) recorded 18 combined digs, and Hazuda led the way with 21 distributions.
Goetz then recorded a career-best 33 terminations against Liberty-Benton, surpassing her previous season-high of 31 on Aug. 27. She added six aces, while Mariea and Nowacki had three apiece. Goetz finished off a double-double with a team-best 11 digs, and Hazuda finished with 10. Demi Fussell (9) and Nowacki (8) combined for 17 more digs, and Hazuda (26) and Nowacki (18) led the Eagles in assists.
Eastwood (2-5) went 1-1 for the week, opening league play with a loss to Lake (25-23, 19-25, 27-25, 26-24) and a win over Rossford (25-12, 25-10, 25-14).
Mack Miller registered a match-best 33 kills along with nine digs against Lake. Vanessa Evans terminated eight, as well. Macey White and Addyson Leppelmeier had two aces each. Maya Schmeltz led the team in blocks with five, while Miller, Jaedyn Richards and Olivia Riter had three each. White led the Eagles with 24 digs. Riter finished with 38 assists and 12 digs.
Miller followed up her big performance with 18 more kills against Rossford, which allowed her to become Eastwood’s career leader and moved her past Katelyn Meyer. She added a team-best five aces, while Leppelmeier and Riter contributed four apiece. Schmeltz stuffed four attacks, and the combo of White and Riter had seven digs apiece. Riter led the Eagles with 20 assists.
Genoa (3-2) suffered a pair of league losses to Maumee (25-27, 25-16, 25-21, 25-23) and Otsego (22-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-17, 15-7). Stats weren’t reported.
Gibsonburg (5-1) added two more victories to its season against St. Mary Central Catholic (25-18, 25-12, 25-18) and SJCC (25-13, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20).
Zoe Halbeisen (13) and Ava Dawson (11) totaled 24 combined kills against SMCC, while Mackenzie Muntz and Riley Gressman had six each. Katie Hall added three more kills along with three aces, eight digs and 31 assists. Muntz tacked on a team-best four blocks. Mia Brink led the team with 12 digs, while Taegan Davis tied Hall in digs with eight. Dawson (7) and Lacey Castillo (5) had 12 more digs.
Gressman (20) and Muntz (10) had double-digit terminations against SJCC, while Dawson came close as well before finishing with nine. Dawson led the team in digs with 10, while Hall, Castillo and Brink had nine each. Hall distributed 35 assists.
Lake (6-0) remained undefeated with wins over Eastwood (25-23, 19-25, 27-25, 26-24), Maumee (25-18, 25-14, 25-12) and Anthony Wayne (25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 25-22).
Mylah Vorst (21) and Kennedy Falkenberg (18) totaled 39 of Lake’s 51 kills against Eastwood, and Lucy Boos dished out 49 assists while racking up six digs. Calli Conley led the Flyers in digs with 26, and the combination of Falkenberg (16) and Kortny Rollins (12) added 28 more.
Vorst (14) and Falkenberg (12) combined for 26 more terminations against Maumee, while Caity Extine (4) and Laynie Meadows (3) added seven more. Meadows earned four aces, while Extine and Vorst each had two blocks. Falkenberg (12), Rollins (11) and Conley (11) had nine digs each, while Boos had 27 assists and nine digs.
In the week’s finale, Vorst led the Flyers with 19 kills, while Falkenberg had 10 kills and 13 digs. Conley led the way with 30 digs, and Boos earned a double-double with 41 assists and 15 digs.
Northwood (2-4) had a packed week with three matches, defeating Waite (no score reported) while falling to Rossford (22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 36-34, 15-11) and Margaretta (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22). No stats were reported.
Oak Harbor (6-3) had an undefeated week, toppling Madison Comprehensive (25-15, 25-13), Rossford (25-11, 25-13, 25-12) and Fostoria (25-17, 25-5, 25-13).
Myley Sandwisch led the Rockets with 12 kills against Madison Comprehensive. Morgan Lalonde chipped in 10 digs, while Bella Rios had 15 assists and four digs. Tenlyee Gordon, Sandwisch and Payne Lohman added three digs each.
Sandwisch added 19 more terminations against Rossford, while the underclassmen duo of Harper Schultz and Hadley Bercaw had five terminations each. Gordon chipped in four aces, and Lohman added two more. Lalonde (10), Lohman (9), Sandwisch (8), Rios (8) and Gordon (7) all had at least seven digs. Rios distributed 28 assists.
Sandwisch totaled 18 kills against Fostoria, while Bercaw (7), Schultz (5) and Maddie Schiets (5) also contributed. Oak Harbor recorded 11 aces as a team, led by Lalonde (5) and Gordon (3). Lalonde led the Rockets in digs with 10, and the combo of Rios (8) and Sandwisch (7) combined for 15. Rios had a team-high 29 assists.
Woodmore (0-5) dropped a pair of matches to Lakota (25-13, 25-19, 25-14) and St. Mary Central Catholic (30-28, 25-22, 25-22). No stats were reported.
