Heading into her fourth year coaching at Clay High School, Marissa Boos is excited about what this season will bring for her athletes.
Last season, the girls and boys teams both placed fifth in the Cardinal Division at the NLL Championships, and a total of 10 athletes across both teams qualified for regionals. The boys team graduated eight seniors, allowing room for growth and improvement from the younger athletes.
“With graduating eight senior athletes, six of whom consistently competed in varsity races, our younger runners have an exciting opportunity to build on the foundation those seniors have established,” Boos said. “Their enthusiasm, combined with the experience of our returning athletes, creates a strong foundation for continued growth and success as a team.”
The trio of Tanner Reindel, Brody Csizmar and Zach Conley each qualified for regionals a season ago, and all three graduated along with three more of the top seven runners from a year ago.
“Tanner and Brody always led by example during workouts, encouraged their teammates and were dedicated to their training,” Boos said. “Their leadership will be missed during this season.”
Boos highlighted junior Christian Stephens and sophomore Hunter Lemon as top newcomers for the team. As both athletes are coming off of successful track and field seasons, Boos is excited to see how their work ethic translates to the meets this fall.
As for returners, Boos is expecting senior Max Miller (20:35) and junior Jackson Ketcham (20:51) to make a significant impact.
When mentioning the girls team, which lost one senior and regional qualifier in Jenna Swartz, Boos highlighted senior Audrey Miller (22:31) as a top returner. Miller, who also qualified for regionals last season, is coming off of a successful track and field season where her 4x400 relay team qualified for the state track meet in Columbus.
“Jenna will be greatly missed,” Boos said. “She was a four-time varsity letter winner for us, who was also a two-year team captain. She always went above and beyond in training and supporting her teammates. Her natural leadership will be greatly missed.”
In addition to those two, the group of Makena Brinkman, Lillian Cordell, Lydia Maletich, Brynlee Rogers and Ella Adams also qualified for regionals a year ago.
“We are excited to welcome back many returning athletes this season and are confident that their strong work ethic, dedication and determination will help them achieve both their individual and team goals throughout the 2026 season,” Boos said.
Along with the returning athletes, Boos highlighted freshman Brooke Davis as a top newcomer, describing Davis as having a strong work ethic and passion for running.
