Prep softball roundup: Clay, Oak Harbor, Eastwood have perfect weeks

OAK HARBOR (19-3, 9-1 NBC) produced a perfect week in league play, earning wins over Genoa (10-2) and Lake (9-6) before sweeping Rossford (7-1 and 12-2 in 5 innings).

The group of Karder Haas, Haylee Robinson, Addison Laubacher, Kaitlyn Meloche, and Payne Lohman had two hits apiece against Genoa. Haas had a team-high three runs scored, while Morgan Lalonde, Laubacher, and Delaney Johnson scored twice. Robinson and Laubacher each drove in a pair. Lalonde struck out seven over seven complete in the circle.

Haas stayed hot with the bat against Lake, finishing 3-for-3 with three runs, two walks, and a home run. Laubacher and Johnson added multi-hit efforts, while Robinson drove in a pair. Lalonde struck out three over seven complete.

Haas homered again in the opener against Rossford, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Robinson (2-for-3, R, BB), Lohman (2-for-3, R, RBI), Lalonde (1-for-4, 2 RBI), and Meloche (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, R, BB) also contributed. Tatum Baumgartner also had a double and an RBI. Lalonde struck out 10 over seven complete, allowing seven hits and just one run.

Haas capped off her big week with a 2-for-4 performance that included three runs, three RBIs, and a triple in the finale against Rossford. Robinson added two RBIs. Lalonde scored three times, and Lohman added two more as well as two walks. Lalonde struck out five over five complete, allowing just two hits, no walks, and zero earned runs.

CLAY (14-3, 8-1 NLL) won all three of its games, including a pair of league wins over Anthony Wayne (4-2) and Napoleon (16-6). The Eagles also defeated Genoa 4-3 in a non-league contest.

The Eagles took down No. 1 state-ranked Anthony Wayne to open the week. The scoring started with game-tying solo home run from Ellie Haynes in the fourth. She then came to the plate again in the fifth with the bases loaded and two outs, ultimately delivering a two-run single. In the sixth, Grace Montgomery singled and was pinch ran for by Brylee VanWormer, who came around to score the team’s final run on an RBI single from Jenna Swartz. Emily Cordell tossed a complete game victory, punching out nine on just four hits.

Clay followed that with a come-from-behind win over Genoa that featured Haynes finishing 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Zoi Zahradnik also went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Montgomery had an RBI hit to tie the game at three. Lily Cordell registered the go-ahead RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Swartz recorded the win, striking out nine and allowing only two walks.

The Eagles closed the week with an easy win over Napoleon. Zahradnik produced the win in the circle, tossing four scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Vanessa Wilk led the team offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Lily Cordell also notched three hits, including two doubles, along with three RBIs. Emily Cordell had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs.

GIBSONBURG (10-2, 6-1 SBC) had its week wrecked by bad weather, only being able to register a 12-0 league victory over SJCC.

Alivia Wauford’s five-inning no hitter led the Golden Bears against SJCC as the righty struck out eight and walked just one. Ava Amor led the offense, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Hannah Crispen (1-for-1, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 2B) and Wauford (1-for-3, 2 RBI, R) added multiple RBIs. Mackenzie Muntz and Emily Henderson also scored twice apiece.

EASTWOOD (15-4, 6-3 NBC) was limited to two games but made them count with shutout league victories over Maumee (10-0, 6 innings) and Otsego (4-0).

The win over Maumee was highlighted by a dominant performance from Addy Loomis, who struck out four over six complete to pick up the win while also finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Makayla Hady (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI, BB) also contributed, as did Jenna Lubash (1-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Grace Meter (1-for-3, R, RBI, BB), Maddie Sorg (1-for-3, R, RBI, BB), Maddie Hartman (1-for-3, R, BB), and Karly Wasserman (1-for-3, R, BB).

Kenzie Hady took her turn tossing a shutout, delivering 17 strikeouts while allowing just two hits and three walks over seven complete. She also scored one of her team’s four runs along with Wasserman, Stella Chlebowski, and Lubash. Loomis and Lubash also had one hit and one RBI each.

LAKE (12-3, 4-2 NBC) split its two games, defeating Otsego 7-2 before falling to Oak Harbor 9-6.

Norah Demory’s big game against Otsego paced the Flyers as the junior third baseman went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of home runs. Maddison Ankney also had three hits in three at bats, while Caity Extine (2-for-3, 2 RBI, SB) and Sailor Lindell (2-for-4, 2 R, 3B) added multi-hit efforts. Parker Dart picked up the win in the circle, striking out 11 and allowing four hits over seven complete.

Despite a three-run home run from Extine and three hits, one double, and an RBI from Dart, Lake dropped its finale against Oak Harbor. Myah Wypyhoski also finished 1-for-4 with one run, one RBI, and a stolen base from the leadoff spot, while Sophia Rudey was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Jada Jerew added one run, one hit, and one walk.

GENOA (6-11, 3-7 NBC) suffered losses to Oak Harbor (10-2) and Maumee (14-2) in league play, while also splitting non-league games against Clay (L, 4-3) and Upper Sandusky (W, 12-7).

Makayla Magrum went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Comets offensively against Oak Harbor. Mya Colvin added a 1-for-3 outing with one run. Magrum also allowed two earned runs over 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Mila McQueary went the final 2.1 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, and one walk.

Genoa fell to Clay in a heartbreaker after the Eagles rallied for three runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings. Colvin finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Izzy West and Rilee Popovich each added a hit and a run. Magrum had a hit and an RBI. Makenna Witt had one hit, one run, and one walk. Magrum was solid in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) with three strikeouts over six innings.

West went 2-for-2 with a walk and a double against Maumee. Kody Teet and Kylie Pennington each finished 1-for-2 with a run. Magrum, West, and Colvin drew walks, as well.

A five-run first helped the Comets defeat Upper Sandusky to close out the week. Magrum (3-for-3, 5 RBI), West (3-for-4, R), and Izzy Britt (3-for-4, R, 2 RBI) all had three-hit performances. Colvin also scored three times with two hits and a walk from the leadoff spot. Teet and Popovich added one hit and one RBI apiece. Rachel Buehler went 1-for-1 with a run and an RBI. Magrum produced the win with four innings of work, allowing just two runs and two walks. McQueary went the final three frames.

WOODMORE (7-11, 5-3 SBC) registered a pair of league wins over Lakota (13-11) and St. Mary Central Catholic (6-2).

Kelsey Kaylor (4-for-4, 4 R, 3 RBI, BB, 3B) had a big day from the two-spot against Lakota, while the trio of Liv Scavio (3-for-5, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2B), Camille Strong (3-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 R, HR), and Alexys Becerra (3-for-5, RBI, 2B) all had three-hit performances. Rebekah Wauford added two RBIs, and Payton Whitcum had two runs and two walks. Scavio picked up the complete game victory.

Scavio (2-for-3, 3 R, BB) and Wauford (2-for-3) led the way against SMCC, while Strong finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Aubrey Becerra swiped a base while going 1-for-2 with one run, one RBI, and one walk. Hailey Hatch added a hit from the nine-hole. Scavio tossed a complete game, striking out six to earn the win.

NORTHWOOD (3-12, 0-7 SBC) dropped a league game to SJCC 19-1 before splitting non-league contests against Woodward (W, 26-3) and Ottawa Hills (L, 20-16).

Averey Perlaky had Northwood’s two hits against SJCC, which included an RBI. Emma Kirkpatrick and Angel Bohner drew two walks apiece, while Camryn Haas, Kadience Karmol, and Alyssa McDaniel had one apiece. Haas also tossed 2.2 shutout innings in relief, allowing three hits and four walks.

Madison Huenefeld led the offense against Woodward, finishing 2-for-3 with three runs, five RBIs, one walk, four stolen bases, and a home run. She also earned the win in the circle, striking out nine and allowing just two hits over five frames. Haas (2-for-3, 4 R, RBI, 2 BB) and Karmol (2-for-3, 3 R, 3 RBI, 3 BB, 3B) added multi-hit efforts. The Rangers drew 25 walks as a team as Perlaky, Kaydence Miller, and Bohner had three runs each.

Perlaky (2-for-5, 4 RBI, R, 2B) led the offense against Ottawa Hills. Huenefeld and Haas added three runs each, while Huenefeld, Karmol, and Kirkpatrick drove in two runs each. Bohner and Kirkpatrick each had four walks, while Haas and Karmol added three each.

WAITE (4-7, 3-3 CITY LEAGUE) earned a pair of league wins, 12-2 over Start and 31-21 against Woodward.

Destiny Garza tossed a complete game no-hitter against Start, striking out 13 while walking six. She also went 3-for-3 with four runs, one RBI, one walk, and three triples offensively. Cli Onyango-Doria (2-for-4, R, RBI), Rayne Dehring (2-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBI), and Jac Martinez (2-for-3, 2B, R, RBI, BB) added multi-hit games. Natasha Torres also drove in a run.

Martinez earned the win in the week’s finale against Woodward, allowing two earned runs while striking out five over 3.1 innings. The duo of Onyango-Doria (2-for-2, 4 R, 2 RBI, BB) and Martinez (2-for-4, 3 R, 2 BB had multi-hit efforts. Dehring, Marie Kropaczeski, and Torres scored four runs each, while Sa’Quoya Dean scored three times. The Indians also drew 21 walks, including at least one by every player who played.

CARDINAL STRITCH (2-8, 0-5 TAAC) dropped a league contest to Toledo Christian (20-3) in its lone action of the week.

Addison Gawle led the Cardinals offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Aryana Alonzo went 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI, and Kennedy Burzynski was 1-for-2 with a run and a walk. Sophia Hamrick added one hit, Brooklyn Gilford and Sophia Schwirzinski each had one walk and one run, and the duo of Jada Rogowski and Samantha Wurst had one walk apiece.
