Posted

Four Press-area girls basketball teams - Lake, Clay, Cardinal Stritch, and Waite - opened their regular seasons. This roundup is for games through Nov. 21.

Lake got a combined 29 points from Brooke Wiley (18) and Paige Allen (11) en route to a 46-37 victory over Bowling Green on the road. Allen drilled a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter to help Lake stretch its lead, and Wiley scored in each quarter, including eight in the first frame. Kaydence Eckenrode (5) and Aubrina Morales (4) also combined for nine points for the Flyers.

Clay got its first bucket of the season from Aleah Simon, who drilled a mid-range jumper from the left corner in the opening minute, but the Eagles were limited to just seven more points - all on free throws - in a 67-9 season-opening loss to Perrysburg. Carlie McGilvray led Clay with five points, while Simon and Audrey Gibbs added two apiece.

Stritch fell victim to a scoreless fourth quarter in a 36-33 road loss to Danbury. Morgan Kennedy produced a team-best 12 points, while Makayla Miltz added 11.

Waite was unable to limit West’s Fardowsa Hall, who had a game-high 22 points in her team’s 41-18 win.
