Genoa (7-3, 4-1 NBC) won all four of its contests during the two-week stretch, producing victories over Lake (56-34), Otsego (60-32), Bryan (55-25), and Toledo Christian (68-42). The results also give the Comets wins in seven of their past eight games.
The trio of Lucy Schlageter (19), Addi Moritz (13), and Makenna Moritz (11) combined for 43 of Genoa’s 56 points against Lake. Stella Rethman added five points, while three others scored at least two points. The Comets scored 30 of their points from long distance, half of which came from Schlageter.
Genoa jumped out to a 15-4 lead through one against Otsego as Addi Moritz eventually scored a game-best 13 points. Schlageter and Makenna Moritz each added 12, while Keira Combs and Kylie Pennington had nine apiece.
The Comets limited Bryan to just nine field goals, while Pennington led all scorers with 19. Makenna Moritz added 13, and the duo of Addi Moritz and Schlageter had seven apiece. A big key to the win was a 20-2 scoring advantage in the second quarter, while Genoa also scored 21 points from long distance as a team, which was just four shy of Bryan’s entire team point total.
Genoa didn’t waste time against Toledo Christian, jumping out to a 24-7 lead through one quarter. Makenna Moritz had a game-best 17 points, including 13 in the first quarter, while Combs (12) and Schlageter (10) also reached double figures. Addi Moritz added nine points.
Oak Harbor (8-2, 5-0 NBC) won three of four games during the two-week period, knocking off Maumee (60-36), Rossford (62-21), and Vermilion (49-31). The only loss came in a triple-overtime heartbreaker to Margaretta (71-68).
Oak Harbor jumped out to a 26-11 lead through one quarter against Maumee as Reghan Markley totaled a game-best 15 points. Kendall Gaines (11) and Karder Haas (10) also reached double-digits, while Brooke Tabbert chipped in nine and Haylee Robinson added five.
Tabbert poured in a game-high 27 points against Margaretta, including 12 combined in the three overtime sessions. Markley added 18 points, including seven in the overtime periods. Robinson finished third in scoring with eight, and Haas chipped in seven. The Rockets were hurt by a 12-of-22 finish from the foul line, but the team produced 24 points from long distance.
Haas produced a game-high 17 points against Rossford, which included nine from long distance and nine in the second quarter alone. Markley chipped in 16 points, while Tabbert (8) and Gaines (7) combined for 15. The Rockets had 10 different players score.
The Rockets then got a game-high 19 points from Karder Haas in the finale against Vermilion. A balanced scoring effort also saw eight points from Laney Schmidt, seven apiece from Markley and Robinson, six from Tabbert, and five from Gaines. The Rockets pulled away with a 16-4 advantage in the second quarter, which included a 3-pointer from four different players.
Woodmore (6-3, 4-1 SBC) won all four of its contests during the two-week period, and the Wildcats have also won six of the past seven games overall. Those victories include triumphs over New Riegel (55-10), Port Clinton (51-33), SJCC (69-35), and Lake (47-45).
The Wildcats jumped out to an 18-4 lead against New Riegel and led 37-6 at halftime as Ariana Florio (12), Keira Travis (11), and Camille Strong (10) all scored in double-digits.
Woodmore built a 31-18 lead at halftime over Port Clinton behind a 12-0 run to conclude the half. Defensively, they followed that up by holding the Redskins to just three points in the third quarter. Kelsey Kaylor poured in a game-high 22 points, and Strong added 19 points.
The Wildcats nearly doubled up St. Joseph in the week’s finale as Kaylor and Florio totaled 17 points apiece, while Travis and Strong had 13 and 10, respectively.
The Wildcats were led by a balanced scoring effort against Lake, getting a team-best 10 points from Izzy Helmke along with eight apiece from Strong, Florio, and Travis. Helmke drilled the game-tying 3-pointer with 2:19 left, and Florio sank the go-ahead free throw with just under one minute left.
Lake (6-4, 2-3 NBC) defeated Cory-Rawson (41-29), while falling to Genoa (56-34) and Woodmore (47-45) during the two-week period.
Brooke Wiley poured in 17 points to lead the Flyers against Genoa, while the duo of Paige Allen and Aubrina Morales had six apiece.
Lake responded well in the win over Cory-Rawson behind a balanced scoring attack that saw Wiley and Morales produce 13 points apiece, while Allen had 10. Kaydence Eckenrode added five to round out the scoring as the Flyers made seven from long distance.
The Flyers then dropped a 47-45 heartbreaker to Woodmore despite a career-best 22 points from Morales. Wiley added 12 points, while the trio of Eckenrode (5), Allen (4), and Gabby Moreno (2) rounded out the scoring.
Gibsonburg (6-2, 4-0 SBC) pushed its winning streak to six straight with a three-victory week that included triumphs over Whitmer (51-44), Northwood (58-20), and Tiffin Calvert (73-38). The Golden Bears have won six straight overall since opening the season with back-to-back losses by a combined eight points.
In the win over Whitmer, which head coach Bo Evarts said might be the first time the program has ever defeated a Division I school, the Golden Bears were led by Elly Evarts, who had 23 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Leah Hall also had a solid performance with nine points, a game-best 12 rebounds, two assists, and one block. Brooklyn Smith added seven points, while Emily Henderson and Ava Dawson had two apiece. Henderson pulled down eight boards, as well.
Evarts (19) and Hall (17) combined for 36 points against Northwood, while Dawson added nine. Evarts and Hall combined to shoot 16-of-23 from the field. Hall produced game-bests in steals (7) and rebounds (6), and Evarts dished out a team-high six assists. Emma Jividen added four points and five steals, while Henderson had four points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Evarts (27) and Hall (16) combined for 43 points to lead Gibsonburg to a win over Tiffin Calvert at Anthony Wayne’s Northwest Christmas Showdown. Evarts totaled eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals, while Hall had nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Smith added seven points in seven minutes, while Henderson had six points and six rebounds. Jividen dished out five assists and produced three steals along with her five points, and Bree Gamble drilled a 3-pointer off the bench.
Eastwood (4-3, 3-2 NBC) lost its only matchup of the two-week period in tough fashion on the road to Maumee (65-62). Ava Kachmarik scored all of her game-high 17 points in the first half, which included nine from long distance. Gracyn Reiter stepped up with eight of her 11 points in the third quarter, while Kenna Nelson had eight points, 10 rebounds, and five steals. In fact, eight different Eagles scored at least four points. Of those, Mack Miller had six points and eight rebounds, while Sophia Zunk contributed five points and six rebounds. Karly Wasserman (6), Karissa Nelson (5), and Lauren Schuerman (4) were the other point scorers.
Cardinal Stritch (3-4, 1-0 TAAC) knocked off Scott (41-33) in its lone game of the two-week period. Makayla “KK” Miltz had a team-high 15 points along with five rebounds and a team-best four steals, while Amaya Hill recorded a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals. Morgan Kennedy also reached double figures with 10 points and a team-best two assists. Erin Carbe pulled down a game-best 15 rebounds, while Alivia Castro had six rebounds. The Cardinals had 14 offensive rebounds, which helped go hand-in-hand with a 20-of-45 performance from the foul line.
Northwood (1-6, 1-4 SBC) dropped a pair of games to Tiffin Calvert (60-26) and Gibsonburg (58-20). While stats weren’t reported by Northwood, Kadience Karmol (7) and Averey Perlaky (6) combined for 13 to lead the Rangers against Gibsonburg. Olivia Eischen (3), Kaydence Miller (2), and Emily Reichow (1) also scored. Reichow and Alyssa Boubon had three rebounds each, and Karmol had two assists.
Clay (0-7, 0-3 NLL) dropped its lone game of the week to Evergreen (58-35). Stats weren’t reported.
Waite (0-6, 0-2 City League) dropped a pair of games to University Prep (56-50) and Columbus Beechcroft (60-27). Stats weren’t reported.
