The Oak Harbor girls tennis team opened the fall campaign with a victory over Springfield and Maumee in the Jack Wallington Showcase at Springfield High School on Aug. 8.
The Rockets scored 68 points, topping Springfield (60) and Maumee (48). Napoleon was scheduled to participate but dropped out.
Oak Harbor’s first doubles team of Dakota Gluth and Sam Benner finished in a three-way tie for first place, although Maumee won the tiebreaker for point purposes. Brooklyn Garcia and Taylor Gluth were runner-up at second doubles, while the duo of Gracie Reebel and Isabel Bolen claimed the title in third doubles.
Because of Napoleon’s decision to drop out, there was also a mixed-team competition in which Mindy Wright and Chelsea Meckfessel finished second as a doubles duo.
