The Oak Harbor boys tennis team finished second at the Northern Buckeye Conference Championship on May 9 at Oak Harbor High School.
Oak Harbor recorded 35 points as a team, finishing runner-up to Maumee’s 50 points. Fostoria (20) and Rossford (0) finished third and fourth.
The Rockets finished second in each flight, as well. Adam Kurtz was runner-up at first singles behind Maumee’s Joey Svelzer, who was the NBC Player of the Year.
Jacob Frank (second singles), Aidan Boss (third singles), Everett Hand and Caden Meyers (first doubles), and Layne Roguski and Ryan Supinski (second doubles) rounded out the lineup.
The Clay boys tennis team finished second in the Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division Championship May 5-6 at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Clay’s 47 points was good for runner-up to Southview’s 52 points, while Fremont Ross (41), Springfield (29), Bowling Green (14), and Napoleon (12) rounded out the order of finish.
The championship results also allowed Clay (33 points) to finish runner-up to Southview (36 points) in the overall season standings.
Clay’s Zach Conley won the championship at second singles, while the duo of Drew O’Connor and Caden Kaminski won the crown at second singles.
At first doubles, the pair of Nicholas Nonekowski and Isaiah Kinn won the consolation bracket and finished third. In first singles, Eli Shimman finished runner-up to Southview’s Landon Vens, who is one of the state’s top players.
Both Conley, a senior, and Shimman, a junior, were named First Team All-NLL.
