NBC Golf: Eastwood boys take home crown at NBC Championship

The Eastwood boys golf team fired a 318 in the NBC Championship at Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde on Sept. 16 to capture a first place finish, beating out second-place Genoa’s 330.

In doing so, the Eagles edged out the Comets for the overall league crown by one point. Maumee finished third in the NBC Championship, while Lake tied for fourth at the tournament, but claimed a third-place finish in the league. Oak Harbor was sixth in both.

Eastwood and Genoa also combined to produce the tournament’s top five individual finishers, including Eastwood’s Jackson Schuerman (77) and Daryn Hoy (78), Genoa’s Brody Klatt (78), Eastwood’s Easton Speck (80), and Genoa’s Ben Routson (80).

Eastwood’s Aiden Kincaid (83), Genoa’s Colby Ralston (84), and Oak Harbor’s Landon Ish (84) also finished among the top 10 individuals.

First Team All-NLL selections from The Press area include: Schuerman, Routson, Speck, Hoy, and Ralston. Kincaid, Ish, Klatt, and Genoa’s Vinny Pasty earned Second Team All-NBC recognition. Local honorable mention players include: Lake’s Breken Costanzo, Genoa’s Joel Gittus, and Lake’s Cooper Heckman.

Oak Harbor’s Gardiner places 4th, Genoa finishes 2nd as team in NBC girls championship

Oak Harbor’s Elle Gardiner shot a 99, finishing in fourth place individually to highlight local individual players in the NBC Girls Championship on Sept. 16 at Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde.

Gardner’s finish was behind only Otsego’s Ava Coe (91), Otsego’s Carley Etchie (93), and Rossford’s Lucy Rodriguez (96).  Otsego won the team title at the tournament and in the overall league standings.

Aside from Gardner, the Rockets lineup included: Rosemary McHale (107), Olivia June Vanness (127), Audrina Derby (143), Alivia Garber (148) and McKenzi Madison (162).

The Knights had four of the top 10 individual finishers.

Genoa’s 424 as a team helped them finish second behind Otsego’s 393. The Comets were led by Madi Mahler’s 103, while Lynde Hartman (106), Vedah Burdge (107), Alyssa Herman (108), and Meredith Grosjean (138) rounded out their lineup.

Maumee came in third at the tournament with a 432, while Lake finished fourth at 435. The Flyers were led by Maddison Ankney’s 103, while Myah Wypyhoski (109), Parker Dart (109), Norah Demory (114), Alaina Braatz (138), and Kaylie Wallace (162) rounded out their lineup.

Mahler was the lone First Team All-NBC selection from The Press coverage area. Second Team All-NBC selections included Burdge, Hartman, Ankney, and Gardner. Honorable Mention team members are Dart, Herman, and Demory.
