Lake’s Schmeltz earns athletic administration award

Lake High School’s director of athletics, Nicole Schmeltz, has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Northwest Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators (NWOIAAA) award.

The award is presented each year to an active athletic administrator who is in the first two to three years of service at his or her school. The person must have demonstrated clear signs of professionalism and involvement, and has made a difference at their school, and/or within their conference.

Schmeltz, who is a 2014 graduate of Lake High School and a 2018 graduate of Huntington University, was tabbed as Lake’s athletic director in April 2023. A two-sport athlete in track and soccer in both high school and college, Schmeltz previously taught social studies at Northwood High School and served as the assistant athletic director for Eastwood from 2018-22.

Schmeltz replaced long-time athletic director, Dave Shaffer, who retired.
