Oak Harbor's 4-3 win over Maumee on April 21 earned its coach, Nick Lance, his 100th career victory.
The Fremont Ross alum, who is in his ninth season leading the Rockets, was an assistant for nine years under Rob Schimmoeller before taking over, and he was an assistant with the Little Giants for two years before that.
Oak Harbor athletic director Justin Slauterbeck talked about Lance, who played catcher at the University of Toledo, achieving the milestone.
"I'm extremely happy for Coach Lance reaching the 100-win milestone," Slauterbeck said. "He's one of the most genuine coaches I've worked with, and it is just another example of how great our coaches are here at Oak Harbor."
Brian Schultz, now in his third season as an assistant with the Rockets, was an assistant coach for five years with the softball team, which his daughter, Reagan played for, and he is now coaching his son, Cooper.
"Coach Lance welcomed me with open arms,” he said. “The guy has poured his heart and soul into the program and has built a winning culture. He does a good job of adapting to what he has. We have been in a lot of tight games the last couple of years, and a majority of the time, he finds a way to win, (whether) it's a squeeze or calling out a hit and run. He has a great feel for the game in the moment.
"I think he has assembled a great coaching staff with Coach (Kyle) Haas running the infield and Coach (A.J.) Cecil calling great games as the pitching coach. I'm grateful to be part of the staff as he continues to build the culture at Oak Harbor."
