Local teams compete in 795 Cup as Genoa boys, Eastwood girls win divisions

Several local teams competed in the 795 Cup, a preseason soccer tournament held July 18-20 at Genoa High School. 

Boys Soccer

Lake fell to Napoleon, Mansfield Christian and Fremont Ross in Division II bracket play. Mansfield Christian won the title.

Oak Harbor concluded Division III bracket play with a 2-0 win over Evergreen after falling to Van Buren and Port Clinton.

Genoa took home the Division IV title with a 2-1 win over Start in the title game. They opened bracket play with an 8-1 win over Defiance before knocking off Eastwood 4-2.

Woodmore was knocked off by Start, Old Fort and Defiance in bracket play.

Eastwood defeated Old Fort 3-1 to open bracket play before falling to Genoa. They finished on a strong note with a 4-0 win over Old Fort.

Girls Soccer

Woodmore nearly took home the Division I title, taking down local rival Genoa 3-1 in the bracket play opener before blanking Riverdale, 2-0. They ultimately fell 3-0 to Bryan in the title matchup.

After falling to Woodmore in the opener, Genoa rebounded with an 8-0 win over Botkins and a 1-0 victory over Anthony Wayne’s White team.

After claiming the Division I title last year, a veteran Eastwood team knocked off Anthony Wayne’s Blue squad in the title game for the Division II crown this year. They routed Liberty Center 6-1 in the bracket play opener before sliding past Van Buren, 3-2, in the semifinal.
