Lake’s Vorst named NBC Player of the Year

Lake junior middle blocker Mylah Vorst was named the Northern Buckeye Conference (NBC) Player of the Year. She led the Flyers to an NBC title and has her squad looking for its third consecutive district championship.

Other first team selections include: Eastwood’s Mack Miller and Ivy Schrader; Oak Harbor’s Myley Sandwisch and Tatum Baumgartner; Otsego’s Kayla McCabe; Maumee’s Brooke Kwiatkowski; and Lake’s Lucy Boos.

Second team honorees are: Lake’s Calli Conley, Kennedy Falkenberg, and Laynie Meadows; Oak Harbor’s Alayna Hall; Otsego’s Leah McCabe and Molly Kramer; Eastwood’s Olivia Riter; and Genoa’s Makenna Moritz.

Honorable mention selections are: Maumee’s Sydney Genot and Julia Coutcher; Oak Harbor’s Ava Lynch and Morgan Lalonde; Lake’s Harlow Haberland, Savanna Saunders, and Caity Extine; Otsego’s Cassie Bunde and Reese Genson; Eastwood’s Braily Moenter and Vanessa Evans; Genoa’s Riley Sinift and Lucy Schlageter; Fostoria’s Charlee Miller; and Rossford’s Cali Adams and Keaghan Mahaffey.

Rodriguez tabbed NLL Cardinal Division Player of the Year

Clay’s Maddie Franke, Eme Goetz, Jadyn Kennedy, and Hayden Rodriguez were each named First Team All-Northern Lakes League in the Cardinal Division.

Rodriguez, a senior setter, was named the division’s player of the year, as well.

Leah Hazuda nabbed a Second Team All-NLL selection.

The group helped lead the Eagles to a 10-0 division record and an outright title. They have also guided Clay to a Division II district championship match against Anthony Wayne.

Gibsonburg’s Hall headlines SBC volleyball awards

Gibsonburg’s Leah Hall was named First Team All-Sandusky Bay Conference (SBC) River Division. The senior outside hitter has helped lead the Golden Bears to a 16-8 season so far, which includes an upcoming district championship game appearance.

Hall has produced a team-high 236 kills while ranking second in digs with 212.

Hall’s teammate, junior middle blocker Riley Gressman, earned Second Team All-SBC recognition. She is second on the team in kills with 182 and aces with 35, while ranking first in blocks (33).

Woodmore’s Arianna Florio, Gibsonburg’s Katie Hall, and Northwood’s Olivia Eischen were also named Honorable Mention All-SBC.

Ford POTY; Cathers, Kennedy tabbed First Team All-TAAC

Cardinal Stritch’s Olivia Ford was named the TAAC Player of the Year, while Gabrielle Cathers and Morgan Kennedy were each named First Team All-Toledo Area Athletic Conference. Hayden Mathena and Ryley Rodriguez earned Second Team All-TAAC recognition.

Ford finished second on the team in kills with 168, while leading the way in aces (61) and blocks (17). She was third in digs with 107. Cathers led the Cardinals in kills with 169. Kennedy (178) and Rodriguez (162) were 1-2 in digs. Mathena contributed a team-best 421 assists.

Jasmine Peek also landed on the Honorable Mention All-TAAC squad, while Logan Manders was recognized as the TAAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.
