Genoa, Oak Harbor compete at AAU Scholastic Duals

The Genoa boys wrestling program earned a fifth-place finish as the AAU Scholastic Duals, which took place in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. from June 26-29.

Facing some of the nation's top wrestling programs, the Comets compiled a 4-6-1 record in team dual competition, and they finished the tournament on a high note by defeating county rival Oak Harbor, 41-32, in its final dual to claim fifth place in the Gold Pool.

Leading the way for the Comets were Tyler Abbey, Spencer Fuller, KeMarr Johnson, Augie Lohmeyer, Parker Bixler and Zach Schaffer, who each earned AAU All-American honors for their performances in the tournament.

The team, comprised of 20 wrestlers, gained valuable experience over the week-long event, wrestling in over 200 matches. The capstone event completes a five-week summer training cycle of practices, lifting sessions, three tournaments totaling in 23 team duals and a three-day camp with Division I NCAA All-American wrestlers for the Comets. 

OAK HARBOR SIXTH

The Oak Harbor boys wrestling team finished sixth at the same event, landing a trio as All-Americans. Mason Garno earned silver status by finishing 9-1, while Aidan Goldstein (8-3) and Max Barr (7-3) each earned copper status.
