Eastwood grad, Kieper, named WHAC softball pitcher of the week

Cassi Kieper, a 2024 Eastwood High School graduate and first-year softball player at Siena Heights University, has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Pitcher of the Week.

Kieper went 3-0 over three starts, totaling a 1.84 ERA where she limited opposing hitters to a .216 batting average over three complete games. In 19 innings, she struck out 25 batters while issuing four walks.

After gutting out a complete-game victory in a 10-5 win over Bethel (Ind.) to open the week, the Luckey native dominated over her final 12 innings.

In her team’s 30-0 win over Fisher (Mass.), she allowed just one hit while striking out 14 batters over five.

Then, in a 7-1 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.), Kieper dominated en route to her first collegiate no-hitter, allowing just four walks with 10 strikeouts over seven frames.

In 33.1 innings, Kieper has recorded a 2.52 ERA this year with a 4-2 record. She has five complete games and totaled 42 strikeouts. She leads the staff in wins and strikeouts.

At Eastwood, Kieper finished a standout career last year where her 175 innings and 273 strikeouts rank among the top 10 seasons in Northern Buckeye Conference history. On top of that, she ranks among the top 10 in five career categories – second in innings pitched (651.2), total strikeouts (915) and wins (80), along with ranking sixth in strikeouts per inning (1.40) and 10th in ERA (2.49).
