CLAY 29, WHITMER 28
Clay stunned Whitmer, scoring the final 15 points of the game over the final five minutes, punctuating a one-point victory with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Landon Echelberry to Brodi Ostrander with 1:13 remaining.
It was Clay’s first win over Whitmer in 20 years.
In fact, the Eagles (5-4, 2-2) produced those final two scores on Ostrander touchdown receptions from Echelberry. Following the second one, the duo hooked up one more time with a two-point conversion.
The two teams exchanged touchdown drives over the first two quarters. Echelberry’s 29-yard touchdown run tied the game at seven through one, and Bryce Besgrove’s one-yard touchdown run tied it at 14 heading into the half.
Whitmer’s Jaden Jones, who tallied 209 yards on the ground, opened the second half with touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, which set up Clay’s comeback.
Echelberry completed 23-of-48 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He added a team-best 66 yards on 14 carries. Ostrander totaled 49 yards on 10 receptions.
Max Morrison and Jimmy Derr each added five receptions for a combined 109 yards, led by 69 from Morrison.
GENOA 49, FOSTORIA 7
Genoa (8-1, 6-0) clinched at least a share of its first NBC championship since 2018 in a win over Fostoria.
Alex Materni rushed for 104 yards on five carries, which included a 74-yard touchdown. Myles Mollenhauer completed 11-of-14 passes for 239 yards and five touchdowns.
Brock Mathews also tossed a 31-yard touchdown pass in relief to Christian Stokes. Jaxon Magnone had a team-best 81 yards receiving with one touchdown on three receptions.
Ryan Routson led the Comets with two touchdowns receiving while racking up 75 yards. Adam Knight added a touchdown reception.
Defensively, Logan Routson had 12 tackles for Genoa. Evan Millner and Materni added nine tackles, while Hunter Bickel, Preston Maher, and Tyler Abbey had eight apiece. Gavin Grigson finished seventh individually in tackles with seven.
GIBSONBURG 69, WILLARD 7
The Golden Bears (7-2, 5-1) rushed for 477 yards as a team, led by 209 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries from Grant Smith, in a big win at Robert E. Krotzer Field.
Aiden Morant added 140 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns. Aiden Nims had nine carries for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Reece Walby needed just one carry for a 36-yard touchdown, while completing 2-of-3 passes, which included a 23-yard touchdown strike to Luke Foster. In fact, Foster caught both completions from Walby.
Foster was a menace defensively, as well, as he totaled a team-best seven tackles along with two for loss while producing a 60-yard fumble return for a touchdown to close a 35-0 first quarter for Gibsonburg.
In all, Gibsonburg totaled 514 yards on 45 plays, while conversely holding Willard to 87 total yards and just three first downs. They also forced four fumbles and one interception.
In addition to the turnovers forced, Gibsonburg produced five tackles from Smith, including one for loss, while Chuy Rodriguez and Hunter Wasserman had four tackles apiece.
Wasserman also registered one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss, while tacking on a 60-yard fumble return for a touchdown, as well.
Gibsonburg needed five or fewer players on seven of their eight drives that resulted in touchdowns. Plus, they scored all of their points over the first three quarters alone.
EASTWOOD 42, LAKE 7
Eastwood (7-2, 5-1) responded from a tough loss to Genoa, jumping out to a 28-0 lead at the half and registering at least one touchdown in each quarter for a victory over Lake.
Drew Luidhardt finished 11-of-20 passing for 150 yards and three touchdowns, which included two to Brady Ramlow. Trace Johnson led the rushing attack with 120 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, while Brayden Luidhardt had five receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Landen Simon led Eastwood defensively with six tackles, while Xander Lauer and Cam Schumaker had two apiece.
Julian Rodriguez rushed six times for 26 yards and a touchdown for Lake (2-7, 2-4).
WOODMORE 38, TIFFIN CALVERT 31
Woodmore (7-2, 4-2) earned the victory behind a 263-yard performance on the ground from Landon Rich, who carried the ball 32 times and added two touchdowns. Calvin Lipstraw added a rushing touchdown as the Wildcats produced 306 yards as a team on the ground.
Wesley Kayser caught a key touchdown reception from Lipstraw in the third quarter, just after Tiffin Calvert had pulled within three. Two minutes later, Rich ran 58 yards for a touchdown to extend the margin to 38-21.
OAK HARBOR 60, MAUMEE 36
Oak Harbor racked up 602 yards of offense, including 369 yards on the ground, to win a high-scoring affair.
In a game that featured 1,132 total yards, the Rockets were led in the ground attack by Blake Nickel, who had 19 carries for 155 yards. Brennan Butzin added 81 yards on 21 totes, while Micah Miller (79) and Wyatt Augsburger (60) combined for 139 yards.
Augsburger added four receptions for 122 yards, and Cooper Schultz caught four passes for 111 yards. He also added a pair of interceptions defensively.
Breydan Porath completed 8-of-8 passes for 233 yards for the Rockets (7-2, 4-2).
HOPEWELL-LOUDON 42, NORTHWOOD 6
Despite Skyler Rita’s 128 yards rushing on 12 carries, Northwood dropped a conference contest.
Tyler Osley had the lone touchdown for the Rangers (3-6, 1-5), which came on the ground. John Sawyer had four receptions for 33 yards, and Valyric Goings had one reception for 24 yards.
