Joyce A. Eisenhour, 89, of Pemberville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026 just shy of her 90th birthday. She was born Joyce A. Avers on May 20, 1936, to Lawrence and Anna (Kahlenberg) Avers. Joyce loved to share stories about her childhood growing up on the family farm. She would later graduate from Pemberville High School after meeting her high-school sweetheart, Allen Jack Eisenhour. Joyce and Jack married on May 25, 1957, and celebrated over 63 years of marriage before Jack’s passing in 2023. Joyce and Jack enjoyed camping with their son Brian, and spent many years visiting Douglas Lake and later their cottage on Lime Lake, Michigan. They also spent many months in Florida throughout the years. In her final days, Joyce happily shared with loved ones that she had lived a long and full life and felt very blessed.
Joyce held a sincere love for the small town of Pemberville. She was the queen of the Pemberville Free Fair in her youth, and later in life, Joyce and Jack were the King and Queen of Yesteryear at the Pemberville Fair. Joyce worked in Pemberville all of her life giving back in numerous ways. Her first job was at the
Nieman Beckman Furniture store, and she spent many years contributing to Eastwood Schools first as the secretary to Eastwood Superintendent Clyde Plant and then later working for Eastwood’s migrant program. She was also the bookkeeper and treasurer for the family business, Eisenhour Motor Sales, where she relished working with Jack and their son Brian until Brian’s death in 2021. Joyce was incredibly proud when Eisenhour Motor Sales reached 100 years in business in 2024 and was sad to sell the business, but she was extremely grateful that another local family stepped in as a buyer. In addition to her work, Joyce was actively involved in Bethlehem Lutheran Church as the organist, member of the adult choir, and a substitute for the bell choir. She deeply enjoyed music and could often be found practicing on her Baby Grand piano or attending concerts with Jack and friends. Joyce was also involved with Luther Home of Mercy and was a Board member for many years. Being in nature, gardening, and visits with friends and loved ones also gave her pleasure. However, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the greatest joy.
Joyce is survived by her daughter-in-law: Amy Eisenhour of Pemberville, grandchildren: Megan (Robert) Schumacher and Todd Eisenhour, great grand-children: Collins and Palmer Schumacher, siblings: Karen (Mike) Godfrey, Dale Avers, and Keith (Denise) Avers, sister-in law: Annette Rideout, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Jack, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, son: Brian Eisenhour, and sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Daniel Schult. The family would like to thank Otterbein Pemberville SeniorLife Community, Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice, and Ashanti Hospice for their care of Joyce in her final weeks.
