After a brief illness, John Roger Scaife died peacefully at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg on June 5, 2026. Born July 2, 1948, he was the son of Fred and Nellie Scaife of Tiffin, Ohio and the 7th of 8 children.

John was a Vietnam veteran, faithfully serving our country as a member of the United States Airforce. Following his enlistment, he worked for almost 30 years in the Ohio Air National Guard, as a jet engine mechanic, with his last assignment with the 180th Fighter Wing in Swanton, Ohio.

Known for a great sense of humor, John enjoyed his coffee and his social life at the Skillet restaurant in Walbridge. He also enjoyed participating in Bowling leagues and Wii Bowling with the seniors at the library.

He loved going out to dinner with friends. He also loved his time at home, reading and studying the Bible. He enjoyed traveling and often visited friends and family in North Carolina and Florida. He was known for helping out anybody that needed help. He treasured family reunions with his large extended family.

He especially loved helping out with farm animals. He enjoyed going camping and fishing, and his daily conversations with his buddy, Ray.

One of the ways that John fulfilled his civic responsibility was as a member of the Walbridge Village Council for several years beginning in 2006.

John was preceded in death by his wife Susan, his parents, Fred and Nellie, his brother Fred (Elsie), and sister, Joyce (Ronald). He is survived by his son, Jared (Elizabeth), granddaughter Ashley, brothers Bob, Richard (Barb), Jack (Joanne), David (Judy) and sister, Jane (Lou), as well as 14 nephews and 6 nieces,

He attended Lemoyne Baptist Church in Genoa and loved his church family.

According to John’s wishes, his body was donated to the Department of Medical Education at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 11:00 am at Lemoyne Baptist Church, 25020 Bradner Rd, Genoa, Oh.
