Heather Elizabeth Hazel-Doggett was born on May 28, 1974 at 5:45 a.m. at Riverside Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. She weighed just 5 pounds and came out singing. She was baptized June 9, 1974, on her father’s birthday, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fostoria, Ohio. Heather was confirmed on December 21, 1986 at Faith United Methodist Church in Oregon, Ohio. There, she was an acolyte and faithfully served in the nursery for many years.
She attended Clay Elementary School until its closing then finished at Starr Elementary School. From there she moved to Fassett Junior High where she was a cheerleader and received the Presidential Academic Fitness Award. She graduated from Clay High School in just three years with perfect attendance.
She attended Owens Community College completing their Culinary Arts program.
Heather played the clarinet and the piano. She also played softball and soccer. Additionally, she was a tap and ballet dancer and a model. Oh, and she was a certified forklift driver.
Always a rebel, she left home while still in her teens to “see the world”. She traveled from one coast to the other and everywhere in between. But she always came back home.
On one trip home, she brought her future husband with her, Sean William Doggett. They were married on September 28, 1997. After several years, they left for Houston, Texas where they both attended Universal Technical Institute. There, Heather obtained a degree in Auto Body Maintenance and Repair. She graduated first in her class. Being the only female in the program, she had to work hard to “beat the boys”. While still attending classes she gave birth to her first child, Aiden Damien Doggett in 2001. After graduating she and husband and son moved to New Orleans for a year, returning to Ohio to be closer to family. Two years later in 2003 their second child, Lucius Erebus Doggett, was born.
Heather was a wonderfully talented artist, writer and poet. Some of her work is so outstanding that it must be seen to be believed. She was brilliant!
She loved being outside and working in the yard and garden. It was her passion. She also loved scary movies and macabre. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, the harder the better, and reading. But, oh how she loved to shop!
Her husband, Sean, passed away in 2005. At that point, Heather’s health had begun to deteriorate. She became more and more debilitated so in 2020 she and the boys moved in with me, her Mom.
Heather was a very strong-willed and obstinate person, not to mention a pack rat. But she loved deeply and fiercely. She always stood up and fought for the underdog. She often brought strays, both human and animals, home. Sometimes bugs, too, especially spiders. She had two bull pythons and a cat named Sheba, and many other critters over the years. She gave freely and abundantly to those she loved and sometimes to complete strangers.
Most of all, Heather loved her family and friends. Her boys were her life. She lived for them. Her goals were to live to age 50 and see her boys reach adulthood. Having met those goals her poor body could finally let go and be at peace.
Heather passed away peacefully at 8:35 a.m. on September 26, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. It was two days before what would have been her 27th wedding anniversary. Sean was waiting to celebrate with her.
She is survived by her mother, Shannon Hazel; sons Aiden and Lucius Doggett; brother Keevan Hazel (Jen Melzak); nephew Fox Hazel; niece Fawn Hazel; her uncle Jim Hass (Elaine Wilhelm) and dearly loved friend Val Ortiz. Heather was preceded in death by husband Sean Doggett, father George Hazel, grandmother Evelyn Hazel, and grandparents Patricia and James Hass.
Heather was cremated and her ashes were mixed with Sean’s. She did not want a funeral or a memorial service.
If you were fortunate to have had Heather in your life, you knew you were truly loved and blessed! She will be missed beyond measure but never forgotten and always loved. To know Heather was to love her and be loved by her.
Grief is love with nowhere to go.
