Galen Clarence Whiteman, loving husband, father, and grandfather, age 89, of Millbury, Ohio, died peacefully, surrounded by his family Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
Galen was born May 8, 1935, in Millbury, to Clarence and Mille (Crandall) Whiteman. Galen was a graduate of Lake High School, class of 1953. On Sept. 1, 1956, he married the love of his life, Virginia Steensen. Galen worked as a mail carrier 37 years, retiring from the Millbury Post Office in 1995. A lifelong farmer, Galen treasured the time spent working alongside his grandfather, father, and son, Ricky, in the operation of Whiteman Farms, which has been in continuous operation since 1878. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on church council. At Zion, Galen enjoyed singing in the choir alongside his daughter, Vicki. Additional memberships included: Toledo United Swiss, German American Festival Society, and board of directors at Luckey Farmers. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and wintering in Madeira Beach, Florida. His greatest love came from spending time with his children and granddaughters.
Galen is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ginny; daughter, Vicki (Chuck) Hensen; daughter-in-law, Betty Whiteman; granddaughters, Mc- Kenzie (Craig) Lamson and Sammy Jo Whiteman (Jeff Harris); sister, Rhea Cici; along with many loving family members and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and son, Ricky Whiteman.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Rd. (east of I-280) Sunday, May 4, 2025, from p.m.–7 p.m. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025 in Zion Lutheran Church, 26535 Pemberville Rd., Perrysburg, where the family will greet friends after 10 a.m. Interment: Lake Township Cemetery.
