Doris Jean Clay entered the arms of her Lord and Savior Saturday, July 5, 2025 in Pemberville, Ohio. Doris was born June 14, 1937, in East Toledo, Ohio to Arthur and Elizabeth (Cook) Boos. She was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Doris graduated as the valedictorian of her 1955 class at Ross Township High School. On April 7, 1956, she married her beloved Sam. Doris and Sam raised two daughters and celebrated almost 68 years of marriage until Sam’s passing in April of 2024.

As an executive secretary at New York Life Insurance Company for over 33 years, Doris was known as a kind, helpful, patient team member who shared her faith and friendship freely. She was a long-time member of Hope Community Church in Oregon, Ohio, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School worker, funeral dinner coordinator and supporter of missions. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, watching baseball, playing games and completing word and jigsaw puzzles. However, spending time with her family brought her the most joy.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Bill) Brewer and Tina (Matt) Cox, grandchildren, Jennifer (Martin) Smolenski, Danielle (Danielle) Brewer, Autumn (Josh) Beam and Dakotah Cox, great grandson, Tyler Smolenski and special friend, Connie Sanderson. She will be forever in our hearts.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Genoa Retirement Village and Otterbein Senior Living for the compassionate care provided to Doris in the last several years.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10, 2025 and interment: Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may take the form of contributions to Hope Community Church or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
