Gibsonburg’s Elly Evarts decided it was the right time to make her college decision as the rising senior guard for the school’s girls basketball team announced her intent earlier this month to play at Division I Kent State University.

School president Bill Berry announced on July 28 that Cardinal Stritch, which transitioned to eight-man football to start the 2025 season, will not have a fall season for the third time in five years. The team was slated to begin its season under the direction of Justin Barrett.

The Clay High School Athletic Department will honor Haley Hess, Hannah Hess, Matt Stencil and Grace Winckowski as part of the 2026 Hall of Fame class on Sept. 3 at St. Michael’s Centre in Oregon. They will also be recognized during the annual Hall of Fame football game on Sept. 4 at Clay Memorial Stadium.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced divisional assignments for football, girls volleyball, boys golf, girls golf, boys tennis, girls tennis, boys soccer, girls soccer, boys swimming and diving, girls swimming and diving, boys bowling, girls bowling, boys basketball and girls basketball. Wrestling divisions will be announced in the fall.

Cassidy Camper, a junior at Woodmore High School, has earned a position on the Ohio National High School rodeo team and will be traveling to Lincoln, Neb. from July 19-25 to compete at the 78th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the Breakaway, Team Roping and Goat Tying competitions.

Two of the area’s top girls basketball programs within The Press coverage area, Genoa and Gibsonburg, competed in Midwest Live on June 19-20 at the Cedar Point Sports Complex in Sandusky, which highlighted a busy June slate for each program.
