Village council members in Walbridge held the latest regular meeting on March 4, highlighted by the approval of a revised resolution for a 23-month extension of a natural gas agreement with Archer Energy, LLC.
The official, revised resolution accepts the proposal of Archer Energy, LLC to extend an agreement providing natural gas supplies through opt-out aggregation to eligible residential and small businesses in the village.
It provides an extension from June 2026 to April 2028.
Council member Kristen Angelo said it’s “super disappointing that that’s the best rate they can get customers.” She said her bill, through the aggregation, went from 63 cents per CCF in May 2025 to $1.01 per CCF in February 2026.
Angelo said she went to the Apples to Apples Energy Comparison website and found seven options available with a fixed rate between 65 cents and 75 cents per CCF with a 24-to-36-month term.
Council president Thomas Urbina said he believes the benefit of being in the aggregation, despite the higher rate, is the ability for residents to opt out.
“There’s more negotiating power when you're a member of the pool,” he said. “It doesn't mean you're always going to get the best rate. It just means that you're part of a community that can, hopefully, get the best rate, and I do think the benefit of the Archer is the opt-out, right? People do have that option if they aren't happy with their rates or they are unhappy with their current service to go with a different one.”
The revision/extension was approved via emergency authorization, as the bill was coming due next week. Residents can research online through sites like Apples to Apples and find the best option that serves their personal needs.
