Student Stars: Cardinal Stritch inducts 17 National Honor Society members

Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School & Academy’s Monsignor Michael J. Walz Chapter of the National Honor Society recently inducted 17 new members.

The guest speaker was Dr. Stacey (Poskarbiewicz) Radde (’96). New members received certificates, juniors received pins, and seniors received honor cords they will wear at graduation signifying that they are an NHS member in good standing.

The Monsignor Michael J. Walz chapter of the National Honor Society includes:

New sophomore members include Aryana Alonzo, Josh Anderson, Gabrielle Cathers, Allie Clinker, Addion Gawle, Brooklyn Gilford, Jada Rogowski, Simon Ross, Andrew Saade, Sophia Schwirzinski, Bre Azia Turner, Erandi Velazquez and Samantha Wurst.

Issac Tovar was inducted as a  new junior member.

 New senior inductees include Spencer Harder, Mykayla Miltz and Ryley Rodriquez.

Current members include juniors Tony Castillo, Morgan Kennedy, Natellya Thomas, Cameron Martin and Carlie White and seniors Olivia Ford, Aeitan Viegas, Kennedy Burzynski, Eden Tipton, Jasmine Peek, Aurora Velazquez, and Xelha Velazquez.

Eastwood Concert Bandb earns I Superior rating

The Eastwood High School Concert Band earned a I Superior rating in Class B at the Ohio Music Education Association Large Group Band Adjudicated Event held March 13 at Sylvania Southview High School.

Eastwood received two Superior ratings and one Excellent rating on prepared pieces, and a Superior rating in sight reading. The top composite I Superior rating qualifies the Band for OMEA State Adjudicated Event on Friday, May 1, at Findlay High School.

The Eastwood HS Concert Band is under the direction of Brian Myers and Jonathan Roode.

Horvath named OAC Player of the Week

For the second time in his career, Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC men's tennis player Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay High School) was recently named the OAC Player of the Week.

Horvath earned his second career weekly accolade after winning both his singles and doubles matches to help BW to its seventh straight win with a 7-0 victory over NAIA Mount Vernon Nazarene on March 19.

He won at first singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Horvath then teamed up with senior Academic All-OAC performer Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills) to win their match at first doubles by a score of 6-1.

This season, he has nine singles victories and six doubles wins.

For his career, Horvath has won 49 singles matches and 59 matches. He is a three-time All-OAC first team selection. Horvath was the OAC Player of the Week on March 11, 2024.
