Prime Times Briefs: Ottawa County Senior Resources collecting ‘Socks for Seniors

Ottawa County Senior Resources is collecting socks as well as blankets for seniors this holiday season for area seniors who could use a little extra help this winter.

Donations may be dropped off at:

  • Ottawa County senior centers including Ed Griswold Senior Center, 514 Main St., Genoa.
  • Ottawa County Senior Resources main offices, 8180 W. SR 163, Oak Harbor.
  • Ottawa County Courthouse (Madison Street).
  • Commodore Perry Federal Credit Union branches in Elmore (365 Rice St.) and in Oak Harbor (1016 South SR 19).

In addition, you can make arrangements to donate by calling 419-898-6459.

Holiday help for grandparents raising grandkids

Area residents can help grandparents raising grandchildren in Wood County through an initiative organized by Wood County Job & Family Services, Bowling Green Kiwanis, and the Wood County Committee on Aging.

Monetary donations will be accepted at all Wood County Senior Center locations and will be used to purchase gifts for grandchildren ages birth to 17 years of age.

Local senior centers include:

  • Northeast Area: 705 N. Main St., Walbridge. 567-249-4921.
  • Pemberville Area: 220 Cedar St. 419-287-4109.
  • Wood County: 140 S. Grove St., Bowling Green 419-353-5661.

Interested grandparents in need are asked to complete an application by Monday, Dec. 1. You can pick up your application at any Wood County Senior Center or visit www.wccoa.net.

New Orleans trip set

The East Toledo Senior Center, with the help of Diamond Tours, is accepting reservations for a trip to New Orleans, set for Sunday, Oct. 11, through Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026.

The cost is $954 per person, based on double occupancy. The price includes motorcoach transportation, six nights lodging including four consecutive nights in New Orleans, a guided tour of New Orleans, a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River, a visit to the National World War II Museum, admission to Mardi Gras World, and more.

A $75/per person deposit to hold a spot is required.
