With Memorial Day just two months away, the chairman of the Oregon Memorial Day ceremony committee is putting a call out for the help of area veterans.

Jerry Eversman, who has been the leader of the group along with the Greater Toledo Vietnam Veterans Chapter 35 members, is asking Oregon area veterans of the last 30 years to please join him at Clay High School on Thursday, April 10 at 7 p.m.

Veterans of the Vietnam chapter will be there too.

“With our World War II and Korean War veterans being less and less available for ceremonial functions, the need for the next generation of veterans is so important to help us make sure we don't forget those who have given their lives in service to our country,” Eversman said.

Whether the veteran served honorably in any of the military branches, regular or reserve, or National Guard, Eversman said they would like them to join the group on April 10.

As an extra bonus for attending, any veterans with questions about the V.A., and their claims, will have the chance to speak with Bob Stewart, a Vietnam veteran very experienced at navigating the V.A. System. Mr. Stewart is post commander of VFW Post #4906, and an officer of the local Vietnam Veterans Chapter 35.

The informal meeting will be held in room 183 at the high school and veterans are asked to enter Clay High School at door #38 which is on the west side of the school off the large parking lot.

Any veterans with questions can call Eversman at 419-266-7776 or email him at jeversman@aol.com.
