Buckeye Broadband celebrates anniversary
Buckeye Broadband celebrated its 60th anniversary by building beds for children in Northwest Ohio and providing handmade fleece blankets from the Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Center (TBIRC).
On May 28, 75 employees got together on the Buckeye campus at 2700 Oregon Rd., Northwood, to give back to the community that has helped them grow.
The employees built 60 beds, in conjunction with Let’s Build Beds, Waterville-based nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that every child in Northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan has a bed of their own.
Each bed will include a warm fleece blanket – the kind used in TBIRC’s occupational therapy programs. The nonprofit TBIRC, based in Toledo, supports individuals affected by traumatic brain injuries and their families.
Geoff Shook, president and GM of Buckeye Broadband; Kim Finch, Buckeye Broadband manager, community engagement and Mike Horvath, founder of Let’s Build Beds were on hand to celebrate the milestone.

Free Disposal Day for Lucas County residents
The City of Toledo is sponsoring four Free Landfill Disposal Days at the Hoffman Road Landfill in 2025, with the first event scheduled for Saturday, May 31. This program provides residents a convenient and no-cost way to dispose of large household items.
Toledo and Lucas County residents may bring one truck or trailer load of bulky solid waste—such as excess trash, furniture, carpeting, mattresses, wood waste, and scrap metal—for free disposal at the Hoffman Road Landfill, located at 3962 Hoffman Rd.
A valid driver's license will be required to verify proof of residency. No commercial disposal will be permitted under this program. The city reserves the right to refuse any loads deemed unfit. A list of unaccepted items can be found at toledo.oh.gov/landfill.
Entry to the landfill will not be permitted from Matzinger or Schwartz roads. Solid Waste employees will be on-site to verify residency, inspect load contents and direct vehicles. Residents are responsible for unloading their own vehicles. Manpower or equipment will not be available to assist with unloading.
This initiative is part of the City's ongoing efforts to reduce illegal dumping and provide accessible waste disposal option for the community.
