Mercy Health’s mobile mammography unit has several visits scheduled in October.
The unit is customized for patient convenience and delivers 3D mammograms to women age 40 and older. It is equipped with the newest technology that offers patients the option of self-compression, meaning they can control compression once they are in position.

While mammogram screenings may be covered by insurance, for best coverage, patients should verify if Mercy Health – St. Charles Hospital is an in-network provider with their insurance carrier. Certified radiologists read all mammograms, which are double-checked with a computer-aided detection system that detects more breast cancer than mammography alone. The patient and her physician receive a copy of the results.

Walk-in flu clinic
The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department (TLCHD) is offering a Walk-in Flu Clinic, Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Oregon Fire Station, 1040 S. Wynn Rd.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older, who able to be vaccinated, receive the updated flu vaccine. TLCHD offers the high-dose flu vaccine for those age 65 and older.
An additional clinic will be offered Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the East Toledo Senior Center, 1001 White St.
All insurances may be billed, including Medicare Part B and Ohio Medicaid. Vaccines are available to everyone, regardless of insurance status. More clinics throughout Lucas County may be announced through the fall season.
Those who would like to receive a flu vaccine at the health department may call 419-213-2013 to schedule an appointment.

Lucas DD plans Trunk or Treat
Ghouls and goblins of all ages and abilities are invited to the 4th annual Lucas DD Trunk or Treat, Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the board's South Toledo headquarters.
Trunks hosted by Board staff, families, providers and community organizations will be lined up and ready dish out treats at 1155 Larc Lane. Visitors will also have an opportunity to vote for their favorite themed trunk.
There will also be coffee for purchase from the Wandering Bean Coffee Co.
Magruder to host Women’s Health Event
Magruder Hospital, 615 Fulton St., Port Clinton, will host a women’s health event in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Monday, Oct. 27, from 5-7 p.m. in the main lobby and imaging area.
Participants should come in the main entrance to enjoy refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres in the lobby, as well as free chair massages, gift basket and purse raffles and giveaways in the mammography and imaging areas.
Come explore the range of preventive health services designed to support a woman’s wellness journey. Friendly experts will be on hand to answer questions.
