Gibsonburg Wreaths Across America

Posted

Wreaths Across America was held in Gibsonburg on Dec. 13. The first laying of wreaths was held in 1992, when The Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine donated 5,000 surplus wreaths to be placed at Arlington National Cemetery to honor the cemetery's dead. The national event has grown in size every year. According to the Gibsonburg event coordinators, Peggy Tornow and George Shreffler, this is the first year that American Legion Post 17 has participated in the national event. After an opening ceremony at Gibsonburg’s Veterans Memorial, volunteers laid 875 wreaths at five cemeteries including West Union, St. Michael's, North Union, and Quinshan cemeteries in Gibsonburg, and Metzger in Helena.
