Genoa Area Local Schools Scholarship Foundation recently awarded $77,000 in scholarships to 45 graduating seniors. The amounts ranged from $500 to $4,500.

The volunteer-run community foundation has more than exceeded its own expectations, having grown over the past 34 years, according to Alan Brown, foundation finance secretary.

“The foundation now has $1.8 million in assets set to benefit the students in Genoa Area Local Schools for years to come,” he said. “Our growth continues due to a community program that is funded by caring, helpful and thoughtful individuals and alumni, along with local businesses and community clubs, which support Genoa Schools.”

This year, 50 individual scholarship funds offered 74 scholarships; 12 additional scholarships were given by various individuals, businesses, and organizations in conjunction with the foundation.

“We celebrate these deserving recipients and their future plans including technical training and higher education pursuits,” Brown said. “Our foundation growth continues along with theirs.”

In addition to Brown, the 2025 foundation trustees include Courtney Cannon, Karli Carr, Bethany Foos, Diane Gerkensmeyer (emeritus), Mitchell Hoyles and Mark Morrison.
