ETC:  Bluegrass in Superclass Winter Fest set at Maumee Bay Lodge

Shake off the after-Christmas blues and head to Maumee Bay Lodge for The Bluegrass in Superclass 36th Annual Winter Fest, which will be held Jan. 8-10. Maumee Bay Lodge is located at 1750 State Park Rd. #2 Oregon.

The event will feature performances from 12 national, regional and local Bluegrass bands.

The schedule includes:

  • Thursday: Kevin Praeter Band; Ottawa County and Larry Efaw & The Bluegrass Mountaineers.
  • Friday; Kody Norris Show; Muddy Krick Mountain Band; Harbourtown; Remington Ryde and Wonpiece.
  • Saturday: Open Highway; Larry Efaw & The Bluegrass Mountaineers; New Outlook, 7 Mile Bluegrass and Grand Ole Opry Star Rhonda Vincent.

Winterfest is working with the American Brain Tumor Association to sponsor a local family that is affected by bran cancer. In addition, a portion of the festival proceeds will be donated to the ABTA.

Walbridge Library  plans story-writing, movie programs

Children are invited to tell their own stories at series of programs at the Walbridge Library, 108 N. Main St.

At each session, set for select Thursdays at 4 p.m., kids ages 8 and older will get step-by-step instructions on how to write their own themed stories.

Topics include:

        Jan. 8 - Pirate Adventure.

        Feb. 12 - Jungle Adventure.

        March 12 - Fairy Tale Adventure.

        April 9 - Space Adventure.

        Winter Movies set

        Cozy up and watch a movie with the family at the Walbridge Library at special showings set for 2 p.m. on select Saturdays January-April.

        The lineup includes:

  • Jan. 10 – “Frozen.”
  • February 14 - Beauty and the Beast March 14 - Night at the Museum April 11 - Wreck-It Ralph

Hot Cocoa Walk

Bundle up and join the Park District of Ottawa County and Elmore Historical Society for a Hot Cocoa Walk, Saturday, Jan. 24, from 1-3 p.m., snow or shine, at Depot Park, 353 Maple St., Elmore.

The event will feature a Snowflake Scavenger Hunt, Snowflake Craft, a Storytime and a Hot Cocoa Station with all the trimmings.

Sculpture Winter  Photo Contest returns

The Perrysburg Sculpture Walk invites photographers of all skill levels to take part in the 5th Annual Perrysburg Sculpture Walk Winter Photo Contest, celebrating the unique ways winter transforms public art.

Located along the perimeter and entryway of Woodlands Park, 429 E. Boundary St., the Sculpture Walk offers an ever-changing outdoor gallery where snow, ice, light, and seasonal atmosphere bring new visual dimensions to the sculptures.

Participants are encouraged to submit images that capture the sculptures covered in snow or otherwise reflecting the winter season and its effect on the artwork. The contest is open through February, with a deadline for entries on Saturday, Feb 28. Winners will be notified by March 7, and the overall winner will receive a $100 gift card to Kohne Camera in Perrysburg.

A reception will be held to honor the winner along with first-, second- and third-place recipients. Winning images will be featured in area newspapers and shared on social media.

The  photo contest is sponsored by Kohne Camera and Main ART-ery, with support from Visit Perrysburg and the City of Perrysburg, along with Sculpture Walk sponsors.
