William H. Krieger

William H. Krieger, 87, formerly of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease and complications from Covid-19.  Bill was born on June 17, 1934, in Martin’s Ferry, Belmont County, Ohio, to Albert Krieger and Helen (Shields) Krieger Hetrick.  After growing up in the hills of southeastern Ohio, Bill moved to Oak Harbor in 1951 and graduated from Salem Oak Harbor High School in 1953, where he was active in football, basketball, and track.  On June 6, 1959, he married Eileen (Harder) Krieger, and she preceded him in death on July 16, 2010, after 51 years of marriage.

After high school, Bill served in the Army from 1955 - 1957. Upon leaving the service, he worked at Foremetal, then as a machinist at Brush Beryllium’s Elmore plant (Materion) for 40 years, retiring in 1999. For most of his adult life, Bill was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor.  A 50-year master mason of the Oak Harbor Lodge, Bill also was a member of the Oak Harbor Athletic Boosters club.  He enjoyed sports, following the Oak Harbor Rockets, THE Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cleveland Browns.  As an avid auction-goer, he always found “treasures” to take home, and he later worked during retirement with auctioneer Chad Brough. A friendly man with an easy laugh, Bill also enjoyed music (especially country and gospel), a good story or joke, and spending time with his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his son Jim (Diane) Krieger of Oak Harbor; daughter Sharon Krieger of Graytown; grandchildren Katelyn (Brian) Alexander, Andrew Krieger, and Jared (Diamond Lorenc) Krieger; great-grandchildren Julie Lorenc and Finley Alexander; brothers:  Tom (Becky) Krieger, Dick (Sheila) Krieger, half-brother Jerry (Cecile) Krieger; stepsister Mary Ellen Halpin; step-sister-in-law Glenna Hetrick; many special nieces and nephews and special friend Virginia Helle. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Walter Hetrick; sisters Nancy Krieger and Sally Krieger Beck and stepbrother Jack Hetrick.

The family expresses that masks be worn at the visitation and funeral service.  Visitation will be on Sunday, October 31, 2021, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor, OH.
