Oregon farmer to speak at Waterkeeper’s meeting
Bill Myers, a fourth-generation Oregon farmer, will speak about his soil practices in terms of being a good neighbor to Lake Erie at the Lake Erie Waterkeeper’s monthly meeting May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Toledo Yacht Club, 3900 N. Summit St.
A former six-year president of the Ohio Farm Bureau's Lucas County chapter with 2,200 acres in grain cultivation, Myers tests the soil every 2.5 acres and alters the application of phosphorous and nitrogen accordingly. Farming has constantly changed over the last several decades, he said.
The public is invited to hear Myers talk, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session. A roundtable discussion about the status of the Western Lake Erie Basin will follow at 8 p.m.
