Tom Siglar honored

Thanks to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 Division III sectional semifinal tournament victory over Evergreen, the 13-10 Northwood Rangers faced off with the top seed in the district, Lake (22-1), losing 25-15, 25-9, 25-8 on Wednesday. The Flyers were Northern Buckeye Conference champions and ranked 11th in the state coaches’ poll, while the Rangers were runners-up in the Toledo Area Athletic Conference.

Before the Rangers’ final regular season home game, a three-set loss to Swanton, the team honored bus driver Tom Siglar with a gift card for Applebee’s restaurant and a  signed game ball with a message “thanking him for everything he does for us,” coach Josh Jordan said.

“Especially this year with six seniors I thought it was a great token of appreciation for everything he does for us and something he can have to look back on as he’s always supported everything we do.  He’s such a wonderful guy and for years given his time and support and I wanted him to know how appreciated he was for that,” Jordan said.

“Tom is such an awesome supporter of our program and all of the wonderful Northwood programs.  He also is a wonderful bus driver who prides himself on keeping us safe every ride as well as loving to do the job he does.  He attends every single home game we have unless he is driving another program to an event,” Jordan continued.

“Every game he offers to help line judge our matches.  Sometimes we struggle getting parents to help.  He has no skin in the game but always is willing to help and volunteer.”
