Press Staff Writer

Sandusky County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) sponsored the 3rd Annual THINK Sandusky County High School Junior and Senior Job Fair at Vanguard Career and Technology Center on March 29.
SCEDC is a non-profit organization that focuses on workforce development, business retention and expansion, and business recruitment for Sandusky County.
The organization is taking a multi-pronged approach to workforce development that educates both students and school personnel on job opportunities and career pathways available in Sandusky County.
More than 170 students from throughout Sandusky County were able to shake hands, provide resumes and interview with 30 area employers from all industries.
THINK Sandusky County is an ongoing initiative of the SCEDC to help overcome barriers to employment and address gaps in Sandusky County’s workforce pipeline by programs and different outreach efforts. The initiative helps attract companies to the county by creating a pool of workforce through programs designed to reach the younger generation.
Deanna Medina, Plant Human Resource Manager for Goodwill Industries of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky Counties was extremely pleased with the Job Fair. “The teachers did a wonderful job prepping the students. The students we spoke to were inquisitive, professional, and well-spoken. It was clear they had been well prepared for on-the-spot interviews. We personally spoke with at least 25-30 students. It was well worth our time and effort” she said.
The SCEDC’s THINK Sandusky County programs consist of the THINK Manufacturing Career Showcase for Sandusky County ninth-grade students, THINK Sandusky County High School Junior and Senior Job Fair, and marketing efforts to the participants, as well as, their guardians. The THINK Sandusky County Bus Tour will take place in May during In-Demand Jobs Week and the Sandusky County Teacher Manufacturing Bootcamp will take place throughout June of 2019.
