Terra State Community College launched esports as its newest athletics program for the fall 2022 season.                Titans Esports will officially be competing as part of Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XII Division III under the leadership of Head Coach Michael Daigneault.
“I am pleased to announce the addition of the esports program to Terra State,” said President Dr. Ronald Schumacher, “We are thrilled to provide yet another opportunity for students to get involved on campus.”
Starting this fall, the team will be competing nationally in Rocket League, Smash Bros and Valorant. Additionally, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Madden and Overwatch will be added to the competition at a later date.
Coach Daigneault is excited to coach esports. “Many students that have spent years playing video games like myself can now take place in school athletics. Gamers are socially different, and this is a great opportunity to connect with those students through school activities,” he said.
Daigneault has been an instructor in the Computer Systems program at Terra State since 2018. As an instructor, he is teaching the hardware side of the program, including Systems Network Support and Computer Information Systems. Prior to COVID-19, he developed and ran the esports lab.
Daigneault is confident that he can lead the team to success. He has four decades of gaming experience and is specialized in figuring out the video game algorithms and developing ways to become the most proficient player through logic as well as strategy.
All students are welcome to try out for the Titans Athletics squad. Any student on the team is also eligible for a $3,000 to $8,000 transfer scholarship to continue to play esports at Tiffin University after completion at Terra State.
If students still want to play esports but do not want to be a part of the official team, there will also be the opportunity to be a member of the esports student organization.
Anyone interested in joining the esports team or student organization can contact Michael Daigneault at mdalgne01@terra.edu.
