St. John reaches milestone
Lake 5-foot-11 senior forward Hayley St. John became the third player in program history to score 1,000 career points during a 66-59 win over North Baltimore.
St. John needed 14 points and with 4:32 left in second quarter, she hit two free throws to score her 1,000th point. She finished the game 13 of 15 from the free throw line and with 29 points. Delani Robinson, a 5-10 junior guard, added 17 points and Ava Ayers, a 5-10 junior guard, scored nine for Lake.
St. John also made her commitment to play basketball at NAIA Lourdes University official during the week, signing her national letter of intent.
Lake fell to 12-7 overall and 9-3 in the Northern Buckeye Conference, one game behind league leaders Elmwood (17-3, 11-2) and Woodmore (19-2, 11-2) after losing in a physical game to Lima Shawnee, 51-44, Tuesday. St. John had added 15 more points to her career total and Robinson and Ayers added eight apiece.
On Saturday, Lake had their final league game hosting Eastwood (15-5, 8-4) with a chance to avenge a 60-45 loss to the Eagles earlier this season. The Lake junior varsity also defeated North Baltimore, 32-22, to improve to 15-2 overall and a perfect 12-0 in the NBC.
Lake opens the Division III tournament Thursday hosting Evergreen on Feb. 18, and a Flyers win will send them to Pemberville to take on No. 2 seed Eastwood on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. for the right to advance to this year’s Anthony Wayne district, which the Flyers won last year.
