Sharon R. Hess

Sharon R. Hess, 82, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, March 24, 2022. Sharon was born January 2, 1940 in Toledo, Ohio to John and Helen (Brant) Yohnke. In 1957, she graduated from Waite High School.  On February 3, 1962, she married David Hess. Sharon worked as a secretary and clerk before becoming a homemaker for her five children and husband while he was on the road for work.  In later years, Sharon was an active volunteer with ETCO (East Toledo Community Organization) for over 10 years.  She enjoyed volunteering with Riverside Hospital in transport where she was offered a position in the Radiology department as a unit secretary from1985-2002. She transitioned to St. Anne’s Mercy Hospital retiring in 2006,  allowing her to spend more time participating in her grandchildren’s sporting events, fair events, and travel with her husband. Sharon was known for her famous rice pudding, Christmas Eve chicken noodle soup served with a side of ketchup, and her Jiggs dinner to anyone who showed up. In 1976 Calvary Church gave Sharon along with other church members the honor of making the Bicentennial celebratory 10-foot Apple Pie, it was 100% edible!
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, David; children,  Tamra (Lee) Hanely, David (Lynn) Hess, Boone (Karen) Hess, Wendy (Jeff) Young, and Darin (Barb) Hess; grandchildren: Jennie (Aaron) Pierson, Byron Atkinson, Justin (Jaime) Atkinson, Eric Hanely, Kelsey (Blair) Hall, Jessica Hess, Lindsey (Dillon) Stiger, Logan (Alex) LaPointe, Jaclynn (Phil) Blazek, Trevor Hanely, Jacob Groesser, Jordan Hess, Julie Young, Rachael Young, along with 8 great- grandchildren and 3 on the way; sister, Marvene Whitmore; along with loved and cherished adopted son, Tom (Mary) Flowers.. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Taylor Hess.
Family & Friends may gather from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon. Funeral services Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 11:00 am in the funeral home.  Private interment: Toledo Memorial Park.  Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Sunshine Children’s Home.
