Ottawa County Senior Resources is committed to maintaining and improving the quality services Ottawa County seniors need to assist them in pursuing full, active, and healthy lives in their place of residence for as long as possible.
One of the programs available to Ottawa County residents 60 years of age and older who live in a home setting is the Home Care Assistance program. To qualify, seniors must have a need for personal care assistance in order to live independently.
Ottawa County Senior Resources has established agreements with several area home care providers to offer personal care services that may include personal hygiene and grooming assistance or supervision, nail and skin care, oral hygiene care, assistance with toileting, active and passive range of motion. If time permits, services may also include light bathroom/kitchen cleanup, changing bed linens and laundry care.
On average, older adults utilizing the Home Care Assistance program will be enrolled for approximately two years. Family members report having increased confidence that their loved ones have the support of a trained personal care aide for bathing several times a week. Older adults and their families have peace of mind that someone is there to help them stay safe without the financial burden of affording care.
To qualify, Home Care Assistance program participants must not be eligible for any other skilled or community home care program (such as PASSPORT waiver, hospice, veterans’ benefits, etc.) or have the means to afford home care privately. The Ottawa County Home Care Assistance program is funded by the Ottawa County Senior Services Levy. Assistance limits are capped at $200 per month per client.
Ottawa County Senior Resources has been an integral part of the infrastructure of Ottawa County since its inception in 2005 when voters elected to pass their first levy for Senior Services. The department is managed by the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners and the County Administrator, and is conveniently located at Riverview Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor, Ohio.
