Rutherford steps down

Wednesday morning, Eastwood girls soccer coach Megan Rutherford informed the team that she will not be coming back for the 2022-23 school year.

“Obviously, we are disappointed in coach Rutherford not continuing to be our head girls soccer coach any longer but support her decision to step away from coaching at this time,” Eastwood Athletic director Jeff Hill said in a statement.

Under Rutherford’s leadership, the Eagles had tremendous success in their league and in tournament play.  Coach Rutherford’s overall record in her 11-year head coaching career at Eastwood was 152-45-16. Her teams won four consecutive Northern Buckeye Championships and were regional qualifiers the last four years. She was also named Ohio’s Division III Coach of the Year in 2021.

Hill said pending Eastwood Board of Education approval next Monday, it will be recommended that Julie Cross be the new coach with Hannah Madaras and Jordan Davidson as the assistant coaches for this fall.

“I have all of the confidence in the world that Julie will be an excellent head coach and that Hannah and Jordan will be great assistants.  All three of them will continue to move the program forward and carry on the tradition of excellence Eastwood girls soccer is known for,” Hill said.

“We wish coach Megan Rutherford nothing but the best as she steps away from coaching at this time and thank her for her countless time and efforts in helping to make Eastwood girls soccer become a program that is well respected statewide not just for it success in wins and losses but also in the way it is viewed in sportsmanship and competitiveness.”
