During the Division II state swim meet at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, the Oak Harbor 200 yard medley relay team of senior Erin Druyor, juniors Emily Haar and Elayna Krupp and sophomore Amelia Mizelle finished in eighth place with a time of 1:51.03.
The same foursome competed at state for the Rockets’ 200 freestyle relay team, placing ninth (1:40.79). In the 50 freestyle, Krupp placed 12th as an individual, finishing in 24.54.
Oak Harbor boys’ 400 freestyle relay, seniors Thomas Chovanec and Caleb Heintz and juniors Eli Sherman and Troy Metcalf, placed 10th (3:18.59).
The Oak Harbor girls scored 45 points, good enough to finish in 13th place out of 59 teams scoring. The boys scored 14 points, good enough for 40th place out of 66 teams scoring.
Eastwood sophomore Calvin Price placed 13th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.75 to score three points for the Eagles.
Clay sophomore Joslyn Jurski won a Division I district championship, qualifying for the state meet in the 200 yard freestyle, but the school record holder did not place high enough to score any points in Canton.
“Joslyn had a phenomenal sophomore swimming year,” Clay coach Rod Gyurke said. “She didn't swim her best time at the state meet.  She went into the meet seeded 23rd and ended up placing 24th. Which doesn't sound that great, but just making the Division 1 state meet is an amazing accomplishment in itself.
“It's something most swimmers will never experience.  Being at the state meet as a sophomore has provided a lot of learning lessons that will definitely help her become more competitive and successful for future state meets,” Gyurke continued.
