Rita's Soups: Food, friendship for community
Rita's Soups is a community based program operating out of St. Paul's Episcopal Church located on South Coy Road in Oregon. The program was founded by Quinn McDougle, the son of Rita McDougle, a former clerical specialist at St. Charles Hospital who passed away from cancer in November of 2020.
Quinn graduated from the Culinary Arts program at Clay High back in the early 1980s and became a military cook in the U.S. Army after high school.
He started the program in March of 2021 as a way to honor his mother. He operates the soup kitchen with his sister, Shawn, and several volunteers who help to prepare, cook and even deliver the soups to the elderly and needy and those unable to attend the monthly gathering at the church.
Different soups are prepared for each monthly gathering where citizens come together to eat and socialize.
Rita's Soups is open to the public every third Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Oregon City Council member, Steven Salander, held a community litter cleanup at the church grounds on April 20. Volunteers helped to clean the church grounds and participate at the Rita's Soups gathering afterwards.
