Quilt guild presents 4,000th quilt to Heartbeat of Toledo
The Maumee Bay Country Quilt Guild has been donating quilts to Heartbeat of Toledo since 1992.
At the guild’s June meeting, members presented the 4,000th quilt to Heartbeat Executive Director Gina Bonino.
Members of the guild pick up pre-cut kits and work on assembly at home, delivering the finished tops back to the committee. The final work of putting the top, batting and backs together is done monthly at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Walbridge.
Every Heartbeat quilt bears a label that ends with, “May your baby always be wrapped in love.”
“We have volunteers at the workshops that are not members of the guild, just women with big hearts and a love of charitable service for others,” said Mary Densic, chair of the guild’s Heartbeat Committee. “All are welcome.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, Connie Frank, of the Bernina Stitch ‘n Post in Walbridge, became our pickup/drop off point as the guild meetings were suspended for an extended length of time,” Densic said. “Only through this kindness were we able to continue with monthly deliveries of baby quilts.”
Also integral to our efforts is the space we’ve been given at St. Jerome to work and store our supplies,” she said. “A big thanks to all.”
The Maumee Bay Country Quilt Guild also provides quilts to Quilt of Compassion for distribution worldwide.
