Senior Day at the Fair
        Wednesday, July 21 will be Senior Citizens’ Day at the Ottawa County Fair.
        Seniors will enjoy free admission from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on that day. The fair runs July 19-25 at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds, 7870 SR163, Oak Harbor.
        Special Senior Day events in the First Energy Pavilion will include donuts and juice, sponsored by Crosser & Priesman Funeral Homes, at 10 a.m.; wagon tours starting at 10:45 a.m.; health screenings conducted by ProMedica, and information available from community agencies. Attendees will also enjoy barbershop quartet music from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
        Raffle tickets for Senior Resources Loves Pets raffle will be available at the pavilion, with proceeds benefiting the Senior Resources Loves Pets program.
        Limited vouchers for sandwiches at the Oak Harbor Lions food booth and Boy Scouts ice cream will be available. Golf cart transportation to and from parking lots will be provided courtesy of The Resort at Erie Landing.
 
Rummage, craft & vendor sale planned
        Oregon Senior Center will present a Rummage, Craft & Vendor Sale Friday, Aug. 13 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 14 from 9 a.m.-noon, 4350 Navarre Ave.
        The fee is $25 to crafters, direct sellers or anyone who wants to sell items they no longer use. Sellers keep all profits. Selling area includes two parking spaces – one for a vehicle and one to set up and sell. Sellers should bring their own tables, 10x10 canopy and anything else they need for set up.

        Benefit raffle
        Oregon Senior Center is among the beneficiaries of Baumann Auto Group’s 19th Annual Big Charity Raffle.
        The raffle winner will have the choice of a new Chevy Trailblazer, Ford Escape or Jeep Compass. Tickets are $5 and are available at the Oregon Senior Center through Nov. 19. The winner will be drawn Dec. 11.
        Cooling station
        Seniors are reminded that the Oregon Senior Center is a cooling station. When it gets hot, seniors are invited to get out of the heat and cool off at the center. Hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (special hours by request).
 
Prize Car Bingo
        The Oak Harbor Senior Center, with Stein Hospice, will host a Prize Car Bingo Wednesday, July 28 from 10-11 a.m. in the Assisted Living parking lot at Riverview Healthcare Campus, 8180 W. SR 163, Oak Harbor.

Wood County Fair to welcome seniors
        The Wood County Fair, which will be held Aug. 2-9 at the Wood County Fairgrounds, will celebrate seniors Thursday, Aug. 5, at a special Senior Day at the Fair.
        The day’s events include:
.       • 9-9:50 a.m. – Coffee and donuts, sponsored by Bowling Green Manor.
        • James Adkins Duo, of Findlay, presenting Americana, bluegrass and folk music.
        • 9:50 a.m. – Welcome and opening address.
        • 10 a.m. – Music by Bliss, of Northwest Ohio.
        •  11 a.m. – Door prize drawing.
        • 11:10 a.m. – Music by Elizabeth Hayes Review Jazz Quartet.
        •12:10 p.m. – Afternoon address and lunch, sponsored by Northwest Ohio Medical Equipment, Kingston of Perrysburg, Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Community, Rehabilitation Hospital of Northwest Ohio, Humana MarketPOINT. Menu includes stacked turkey or ham, cold beans, heritage cole slaw, melon salad, Rice Krispies Treat, and water.
        • 12:30 p.m. –Lee Warren, of Findlay, performing classic rock and country.
        • 1:30 p.m. – East of Cheyenne performing classic country; door prize drawing (must be present to win).

        All events will be held under the tent. Enter through Gate B or C off Poe Road. A free shuttle from the parking lot on Poe Road to the fairgrounds is provided via golf carts courtesy of the Wood County Sherriff’s Office. Seniors should call 419-352-8257 from the parking lot for free shuttle into the fairgrounds on Senior Day.
 
Alzheimer’s programs
        The Alzheimer’s Association will hold virtual educational programs July 20-28 for the community and families impacted by the disease.
        These presentations cover a variety of topics and occur at different times during the day and early evening via videoconferencing to allow individuals to participate in the convenience of their homes. Virtual program to discuss patient portals
        Magruder Hospital will present a virtual education program Monday, July 26 at noon.
        Magruder’s Director of Health Information Management and Privacy Officer Joanne Tiffney will present a program on “Patient Portals – How Do they Work, Why are There So Many and What Can They Do for You?”

Monthly lab screenings
        Magruder offers lab screenings on the second Thursday each month between 8 and 11:30 a.m. at the Magruder Community Clinic, 730 Jefferson St., Port Clinton. Appointments are required and may be made by calling 419-301-4304.
        The $20 screening includes a basic metabolic panel (glucose, BUN/Creatinine, calcium, potassium, sodium, chloride, CO2) and a lipid profile (total cholesterol/LDL/HDL/triglycerides), as well as a blood pressure check.    
        As an added bonus, individuals can add on a COVID antibody IgG test for an additional $5, a PSA test for an additional $5 and/or a hemoglobin A1C test for an additional $5.

Division President
        ProMedica has named Angela Brandt president of ProMedica Senior Care.
        Reporting to ProMedica chief operating officer Arturo Polizzi, Brandt will be responsible for driving senior care excellence, strategically investing in senior care operations nationwide, achieving synergies with other ProMedica divisions, exploring new partnerships and ventures, and advancing a holistic care model focused on both health and well-being.
        Brandt brings nearly 25 years of health care industry experience to her position. Most recently, she served as president of ProMedica Physicians. In that role, she oversaw the business operations, clinical operations, revenue cycle, and value-based initiatives of the provider group, which includes 130 locations. Prior to that role, she served in various executive and operational leadership positions at ProMedica and Summa Health System.
 
Senior Farmers’ Market
Nutrition Program
        The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides $50 worth of coupons to eligible adults 60 years of age or over to purchase locally grown, fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from local farmers.
