Perrysburg-based Monarch Grief Center expands services

The Monarch Grief Center, a nonprofit organization based in Perrysburg, welcomed Lori Lux, MSW, LSW as the primary provider for individual grief counseling to clients under the age of 18.
Lux graduated from the University of Toledo with her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2010 and Master of Social Work degree earlier this year. A life-long resident of Northwest Ohio, she is married and is a mother of five.
“Grief support is a priority for me. My dad died of melanoma when I was only 5. I know I would have benefited from grief counseling services,” she said.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to work with children and expand the services of such a valuable community resource.”
Founded by two social workers, Tim Polakowski and Amy Rowe, the Monarch Grief Center opened in February of this year. “The community’s response to our center has been amazing so far,” said Polakowski, who serves as executive director and a counselor at the center. “We are so pleased to be able to add individual grief counseling for children to our list of services.” The center also offers individual counseling and specialized support groups for adults as well as community outreach and education.
While Monarch does not accept private insurance the center offers a generous sliding fee scale for those who need it. “We never want the cost of our professional service to keep someone from getting the help and support they need,” said Rowe, who is outreach director and a grief counselor.
“We have several community members who have generously donated to Monarch which allows us to offer our clients reduced fees for those who qualify,” she said.
The Monarch Grief Center’s mission is to provide those grieving in Northwest Ohio with a place to turn so they feel less alone in their grief journey. The center is located in the Perry’s Landing complex at 314 Louisiana Ave. For more information or to donate, call 567-331-8601 or visit monarchgriefcenter.org.
