Penta awards contracts for new EV Lab, Student Commons
During its Dec. 13 regular meeting, the Penta Career Center Board of Education approved an agreement with Kleinfelder Architecture Inc., of Bowling Green, for design professional services for the new e-Mobility Lab and the Student Commons addition portions of the Capital Improvement Projects.
The cost of the e-Mobility lab will be an amount not to exceed $454,635 and the cost of the Student Commons addition will be in the amount not to exceed $410,519.
In addition, the board awarded a contract for preconstruction services to Rudolph Libbe Inc., which will serve as the construction manager at risk.
The Penta Board also awarded a contract to Van Tassel Construction, of Sylvania, in the amount of $1,766,300, which includes $32,300 for Alternate A1, to renovate the 16,000 square foot building at 1205 Corporate Dr. in Holland.
Another contract was awarded to Comte Construction, of Toledo, in the amount of $753,000 for the main campus Cosmetology lab renovations.
Earlier this year, Penta announced several capital improvement projects were planned over the next several years. In May, the board approved the purchase of a 16,000 square foot building in Holland for regional programming for residents in the northwestern portion of the Penta school district. This building will undergo remodeling to create lab and classroom space for primarily adult training programs. The goal is to have the remodeling completed by the fall of 2024. The remodeling of the Cosmetology lab will include space upgrades, re-design of the customer service entryway, ventilation improvements, new furnishings and new flooring.
Kleinfelder Architecture Inc. was hired in August for master planning, design and related construction administration services. The firm is providing services for the 1205 Corporate Drive and the main campus Cosmetology remodeling projects and services for the e-Mobility lab and cafeteria expansion projects.
In addition, the firm is conducting a space analysis study to identify underutilized space in the main campus facility, as well as identify space that needs to be created for current and future program needs.
In November, Penta was awarded a $2.4 million grant from the State of Ohio through the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation to assist in constructing a new e-Mobility flexible lab space to be located on the main campus.
