Park district awards grants for rec projects

The Ottawa County Board of Park Commissioners has awarded the first Parks and Trails Improvement Grant by funding nine outdoor recreation improvement projects throughout the county.
In all, $200,000 will be dispersed to the approved projects.
Funded projects for 2022 are:
Cedar Meadow Preserve Trail Resurfacing, Catawba Island Township -$20,000
Fairgrounds Portage River Kayak Launch, Ottawa County - $10,000
Meadowbrook Marsh Improvements, Danbury Township- $15,000
Genoa Veterans Park Storywalk Trail, Harris-Elmore Public Library- $5,100
Portage Park Playground, City of Port Clinton- $15,000
Genoa Veterans Park/North Coast Inland Trail restroom- $40,000
Marblehead Welcome Center, Village of Marblehead- $15,000
Oak Harbor Riverfront Trail, Village of Oak Harbor- $59,900
Massie Cliffside Preserve Driveway, Put-in-Bay Township- $20,000
Park district officials said they were impressed by the creativity and expertise represented in the first round of grant applications.
Plans are being completed for the continuation of the grant program in subsequent years. Interested applicants should visit www.ottawacountyparksoh.org for future grant program information. Political subdivisions in Ottawa County were eligible to apply for funding in order to offer more access to local outdoor recreation opportunities.
Grant projects were required to outline improvements to public outdoor recreation facilities, green spaces, and/or trails located in Ottawa County. Awardees will be reimbursed for project costs up to the award amount after the final reporting documentation is submitted.
