Ottawa County: Grand jury indictments issued
After a recent session of the Ottawa County Grand Jury, indictments have now been returned against the following individuals, according to Prosecuting Attorney James VanEerten:
-Sabah Jabir Al-Talaquani, who is currently being held in the Ottawa County Detention Facility, was indicted on three counts of rape, and one count each of felonious assault and kidnapping, after he allegedly raped a victim repeatedly while holding the person against their will on Put-in-Bay last month.
-Kim Vestal and Kyle Vestal, both of whom are incarcerated in the Ottawa County Detention Facility, have each been indicted on charges of aggravated trafficking in drugs. According to the Ottawa County Drug Task Force, the pair sold methamphetamine in their Oak Harbor home in January while in the presence of a juvenile. Kyle Vestal is facing three trafficking counts; Kim Vestal is charged with two counts of trafficking and an additional count of permitting drug abuse.
-Kevin Wilson, who is also being held in the Ottawa County Detention Facility, was indicted on felony counts of intimidation of a witness and obstructing official business, along with misdemeanor charges of violating a protection order, resisting arrest, and criminal damaging. Wilson is accused of having contact with someone with an active order of protection against him, and broke several windows in the victim’s vehicle. When deputies of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded, Wilson allegedly threatened them as well.
-Heidi Schmidt, who is currently being held in the Ottawa County Detention Facility, has been indicted on charges of felonious assault, failure to comply, child endangering, operating a vehicle while impaired, reckless operation, and driving under suspension. According to reports, deputies of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Schmidt for a traffic violation when she fled, resulting in a lengthy chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Schmidt, who was intoxicated and had a 3-year- old child in her vehicle, was finally stopped and arrested in Sandusky County.
-Ajaye Goosby, Toledo, was charged with one count each of felonious assault and aggravated assault, felonies of the second and fourth degree, respectively. Goosby is accused of assaulting a fellow inmate in the Ottawa County Detention Facility late last month when he was incarcerated there.
-Kalena Magen Hazel Arthur, Toledo, is accused of stealing over $1,000 worth of jewelry from a Curtice residence where she was working as a home health care aid in May.
-Amy Marie Hall, Fremont, has been charged with one count each of tampering with evidence and drug possession, both felonies of the third degree. According to reports of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Hall was stopped by troopers in March for an equipment violation and found in possession of THC edibles and marihuana.
-Latrell Josiah Charlton, Lorain, was charged with one count of possession of hashish, a felony of the fifth degree, after troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol found the drug in his vehicle during a traffic stop in February.
-Zachery Louis Kriso, Lorain, has been charged with one count each of trafficking in marihuana and possession of hashish, both felonies of the fifth degree, after he was found in possession of drugs that were packaged for distribution during a traffic stop by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in April.
-Randy Schneider, Marblehead, has been indicted on five felony counts of theft. According to reports of the Danbury Township Police Department, Schneider, owner of Marblehead Construction, took money from multiple victims for construction projects that were either not completed or never started.
-Clarissa Spearman, Toledo, was charged with six counts of burglary and six counts of theft, along with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, all felonies. Spearman is accused of entering several long term care facilities in Ottawa County and Erie County earlier this year, and stealing valuables from residents and employees.
-Frederick Kahlil Shears, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Addie May Kuney, Adrian, Michigan, were each indicted on charges of assault of a peace officer and resisting arrest, after an incident on Put-in-Bay late last month which left an officer with facial injuries.
-Donte Deandre Taylor, Euclid, and Rashawn Jemal Ingram, Cleveland, have each been charged with two counts of receiving stolen property, after they were reportedly found in possession of a stolen golf cart on Put-in-Bay last month.
-Heather Elizabeth Lopez, Lorain, was charged with theft and theft of motor vehicle, and Joseph Klanac, Amherst, was charged with receiving stolen property and impersonating a police officer, in July, after the two were involved in the theft of a golf cart owned by the Put-in-Bay Police Department.
-Taylor Harasti, Port Clinton, has been charged with one count of improper handling of a firearm, a felony of the fourth degree, after troopers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol allegedly found him in possession of a loaded firearm after he was involved in a motorcycle accident in June.
-Caleb Cuevas, Port Clinton, was charged with one count each of felonious assault and domestic violence, following an incident in Benton Township in July. Cuevas reportedly was involved in a domestic dispute which resulted in a victim being thrown from his vehicle, causing serious injuries.
-Blake Doolin, Port Clinton, and Abonie Mary Brown and Alix Edward Kaman, both of Sandusky are facing felony charges of improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle and possession of drugs. Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol reportedly found the three in possession of two loaded firearms and methamphetamine during a traffic stop in May.
Warrants were issued for Al-Talaquani, Vestal, Vestal, Wilson, Schmidt, Spearman, Schears, and Kuney. All others have been scheduled to make their initial appearance in common pleas court later this month.
VanEerten noted that an indictment is merely a formal charge in the court, and does not denote the guilt or innocence of the defendant.
