Oregon: City tweaking industrial park land deal

For the second week in a row, Oregon City Council has approved an ordinance pertaining to land in the city’s industrial park.
On Nov, 4, council authorized the administration to enter into an agreement to sell 168.4 acres in the industrial park for $17.3 million.
Last week, city council approved an ordinance authorizing the acquisition of additional land.
Mayor Mike Sefarian last week said the city is bolstering its chances of having a major company locate in the city’s industrial park by owning the land.
The city has been in talks with a company, Capacity, LLC, which is a site selector for data centers.
“We don’t have a guarantee that this data center is coming here. We believe we can deliver everything they want and we believe they really want to come here. So, we think the percentages are high but we understand that something could happen and this might not happen. However, we do have others in line to act on this site also. All of them require us to have the property secured.”
With the additional property, about 176 acres will be available for the data center.
Yet to be decided is whether five residential properties on Wynn and Corduroy roads need to be purchased, the mayor said, adding the city has options to purchase them in place.
Joel Mazur, city administrator, said that although some parcels in the industrial park are owned through the Oregon Economic Development Commission, any proceeds from the sale of acreage in the industrial park will come to the city.
In other business, council approved ordinances:
-Authorizing the purchase of turn-out gear for fire department personnel from Fire Safety Services, Inc., Huntsville, Ohio at an amount not to exceed $46,240.
-Authorizing the administration to contract with Buehrer Group Architecture & Engineering, Maumee, for design and engineering services for a pre-manufactured building for storing street department vehicles and equipment. There is a cap of $55,880 on the contract.
The city is contracting with Midwest Contracting, Inc., Holland, Ohio, for labor and materials for the project.
