Oarel “Mickey” Pierce

Oarel “Mickey” Pierce, age 80, formerly from Woodville, Ohio passed away peacefully on February 5, 2020 at his home in Leesburg, FL due to health issues. He was born on March 18, 1939 to Oarel D. and Edith Elizabeth (Johnson) Pierce. 

He was raised on the family farm in Woodville, Ohio that had been in the Pierce family for over a century. It was later turned into Hidden Hills Golf Course in 1968. Mickey graduated from Woodville High School in 1957. His love for flying and airplanes led him to many business ventures from airlines, travel agencies, freight companies, as well as managing Hidden Hills for 24 years before he retired in Florida in 2011. 

Mickey is survived by his daughter Dawn (Edward) Sandwisch of Perrysburg, OH and his three grandchildren Oarel “Rodney” Pierce of Perrysburg, OH, Michelle (Justin) Fisch of Ballston Lake, NY and Anthony (Christina) Happeny of Brookhaven, GA along with 2 great grandsons. As well as step-grandchildren Matt (Tammy) Sandwisch, Laura (John) Mier and 4 step great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his wife, Elizabeth, stepdaughter Heidi Boermeester and step grandson. 

Mickey was the oldest of his siblings and is survived by David (Janet) Pierce of Bay Minette, AL; Laurel (Cherie) Pierce of Fruitland Park, FL; Bonnie (Tom) Schmeltz of Clarksville, VA. and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Oarel “Bryan” Pierce and sister Betty Pierce.

 A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 14th, 2020 at 3pm at the Woodville United Methodist Church, Woodville, Ohio. There will be desserts served at the church immediately following the service. 

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
