Oak Harbor defeats Genoa in the playoffs, 47-36
Oak Harbor’s only loss of the season was to Genoa in week two.
The Rockets may have lost the battle, but they won the war, defeating the Comets, 47-36, in the first round of the Division V playoffs.
Genoa, which finished the season 6-5, got on the board first when Aiden Brunkhorst connected with Mason Drummond for an 89-yard touchdown less than three minutes into the game.
But Oak Harbor (10-1) scored 27 unanswered points and was able to hold off the Comets in the second half.
The Rockets out-gained Genoa in total yards, 528-356, and won the turnover battle, 2-1.
Oak Harbor had four players whose performances stood out.
Michael Lalonde was magnificent, completing 14-of-15 passes for 269 yards and four touchdowns, Jaqui Hayward carried the ball 12 times for 118 yards and three touchdowns and caught two passes for 86 yards and a score, Hayden Buhro caught nine passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns and Carson Ridener had 149 yards (128 rushing; 21 receiving) of total offense.
Brunkhorst completed 9-of-17 passes for a touchdown and two interceptions, Drummond caught six passes for 133 yards and a score and Aidan Antry carried the ball 18 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
